You might think that zombie bodies deteriorate in the water, but not in Zombie Land Saga. Zombies can get foot baths and go into hot springs like there is no problem. Kotaro’s makeup skills are truly legendary.
Japanese Original Episode Title: ウォーミング・デッド SAGA
Kotaro tells the girls that their budget has run out and that he has arranged a meeting in order to earn a sponsorship deal with a pharmaceutical company. The girls are sent out to perform at a hot springs resort in Ureshiro, but before the performance, they go around sightseeing and share their motivations and goals as idols and agree to work together to achieve them. When they return to the resort, they test out the product that they will be promoting: health patches that turn out to be significantly more effective on them. They work miracles at loosening their stiffened muscles, which they put into good use during their performance. Later that night, even though Kotaro has instructed them not to use the hot springs, Sakura, Saki, and Junko sneak in and accidentally terrify the pharmaceutical company’s president, resulting in losing the sponsorship deal. But the girls don’t give up and decide to try really hard and get a good budget for their future activities.
Kotaro is super serious in business meetings: It honestly kind of threw me off seeing him so polite, timid and even flirty with the pharmaceutical lady. He is a good guy after all, because he really tries to make the girls succeed. He even told them that he was going sightseeing but as it turns out he had a business meeting. On the other hand, I don’t know if I would consider a deal from a guy that wears sunglasses indoors, orders a strawberry parfait in a business meeting, and has dried squid handing from his pocket, but that’s just me.
Tae in the shrine: That scene killed me. Seeing her going crazy when ringing the bell and no one was really stopping her, just made me burst out laughing.
Saganship Z: I don’t know if this product is a reference to something, but I just loved their reactions when they put it on. Especially those little hearts that appeared in their mouths to show how happy and nice they felt. That was really cute!
Themes & Trivia
Chatsumi: During the intermission screen, we see the girls harvesting something from a field and the word ‘chatsumi’ is written over their heads. This is actually a traditional song which means ‘tea picking’. It talks about tea-pickers with special costumes who are picking new tea leaves at beautiful tea farms.
Biku biku: In the next intermission screen when Sakura and Junko are riding the air balloon, Zuko has ‘bikubiku’ written over her. It means shudder, flinch, shock, and it is used when you are frightened, i.e. someone touches you when you thought they were going to hit you. It’s a surprised reaction, usually in semi-frightened state.
‘You zombies can be overworked without dying.’ When Kotaro said this, I thought, ‘Damn, they really throw some hard satire for the industry’. Also, how can Kotaro go in the hot springs and sauna with sunglasses on? First of all it is not allowed, and second, he would not have been able to see anything plus his face would have burned off because of the sunglasses material.
Another thing that I absolutely loved in this episode was their faces when they were talking about sneaking in the hot spring. Sakura and Saki’s smug faces were hilarious and Junko was so goddamn cute when she hesitantly said that she wanted to join as well. At this point, it needs to be mentioned that if these girls actually went into water, it would have been a total disaster. Their makeup would have come off and even if Kotaro uses waterproof cosmetics, their bodies would start deteriorating right away. And let’s not talk about the whole smell and corpse decay that they would leave in the hot spring bath… Poor pharmaceutical lady. Despite the scare and the shock you might need to get yourself checked for worms or something.
Let’s bust our asses, and get us a budget!
The flow of this anime is very nice so far! I enjoy seeing the girls’ little adventures until they make it big and I am glad that they don’t focus that much on their performance as they did in the last episode, because seeing the same CGI sequence again and again might end up being a bit tedious.
