This show has done it again. When I thought that nothing could be better than Hitler semen, party Jesus came to prove me wrong. Probably this arc of Vatican Miracle Examinerwill be the last one and, oh boy, I am so excited to see what’s going to happen!
Japanese Original Episode Title: 首切り道化師とソロモンの童話
The episode starts with some creepy weird tape video explaining the legend of the Decapitating Clown, which is basically an avatar of the Devil who hides in the forest near a small village in Tuscany named Monte, and kills people who wonder or get lost in it. Roberto and Hiraga are called by the Vatican to investigate a miracle that occurs in the church of Saint Eligius near that village, since one of the high priests of the church, Father Trones, is opposing the verification of it.
The miracle is probably legit, but to their surprise every person that witness it sees something different. That makes our guys to investigate even further. Roberto goes into the library of the church and starts finding some weird books about children fairy tales and Hiraga does his own science things as usual. And of course, the first day the guys sleep in the church a murder occurs and a young boy is found dead in the main hall of the church and Father Trones has gone missing.
A typical day.
Rainbow party Jesus: This was the best miracle so far guys. When the scene came on and I saw this, I lost it. I could imagine some gay anthem, like ‘It’s okay to be gay’ or something, playing really loud in the background and everyone in the church losing their shit and dance like crazy. Best shit ever.
Opening tape footage: The footage shown in the beginning of the episode was so damn creepy! I couldn’t believe that it was part of the same show that I’ve been watching for the last few weeks. Very Blair Witch Project-inspired I would say.
Themes & Trivia
Azoth/AzΩת:Azoth was considered to be a universal medication or universal solvent sought in alchemy (similar to another alchemical idealized substance, alkahest, azoth was the aim, goal, and vision of many alchemical works). Its symbol was the Caduceus, the staff carried by Hermes in Greek mythology, and so the term, while originally a term for an occult formula sought by alchemists much like the philosopher’s stone, became a poetic word for the element mercury. The term was considered by occultist Aleister Crowley to represent a unity of beginning and ending by tying together the first and last letters of the alphabets of antiquity: A (Aleph, the first character in the Phoenician alphabet), Z (Zeta, the final character in Latin), Ω (Omega, the final character in Greek) and ת (Tav (pronounced ‘Tau’) the final character in Hebrew.
Paracelsus: Paracelsus born Theophrastus von Hohenheim, full name Philippus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim, (thank God he decided to shorten his name… HONENHEIM? DOES THAT RING ANY BELLS?) was a Swiss physician, alchemist, and astrologer of the German Renaissance. He was a pioneer in several aspects of the ‘medical revolution’ of the Renaissance, emphasizing the value of observation in combination with received wisdom. He is credited as the father of toxicology.
This arc is quite interesting. I am a sucker for this kind of story lines. Basically anything that involves folklore and a serial killer is my type of thing… The whole ‘Decapitating Clown’ reminded a little bit of the American Horror Story: Freakshow – clown and in general it was the first thing that popped into my mind when I was watching this episode, don’t know why exactly.
Some small observations for this one: firstly WHO STAYS IN A CHURCH WHERE THEY LOCK YOUR ROOM AT NIGHT? What the hell is wrong with them? I would never EVER sleep in a place where I don’t have the freedom to get in and out of my own room. And Roberto saying: ;Let’s hope there is not going to be a fire this evening.’ Dude are you for real? Fire is your concern? In every church you’ve been so far there are murders happening and besides that you still went along with being locked up. I am S P E E C H L E S S.
And one more thing. Did anyone else notice that the clown has long white hair? Eh? EH? Julia maybe? EH, EH? And last one, the music in this episode was very atmospheric, the chanting at the end gave me the chills a little bit.
I’m beautiful in my way, ‘cause God makes no mistakes
Very pumped to see what is going to happen in this arc. AND I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT PARTY RAINBOW JESUS! WOOHOO! And then they say that this anime is not gay enough…Until the next one guys! Cheers!
