Lauren the genius: ‘His IQ was too high to measure’ nuff said
Creepy Santa: The scene where the Santa goes on John’s window was the creepiest shit ever seriously. I mean what the hell is this.
Love triangle: By the end of this episode, I think it was hinted quite that Hiraga is into Roberto and Lauren is into Hiraga. I am not the kind of fangirl that tries to find yaoi elements and ships people like that, but seriously this is what they want us to believe.
Themes & Trivia
The Game of Angels and Demons: is basically GO with a different name and game board. Go is an abstract strategy board game for two players, mostly popular in Southeast Asia, in which the aim is to surround more territory than the opponent. Despite its relatively simple rules, Go is very complex, even more so than chess, and possesses more possibilities than the total number of atoms in the visible universe.
Azazel: Azazel, in Rabbinic Judaism, is not a name of an entity but rather means literally ‘for the complete removal.’ Although in the Bible it appears in association with the scapegoat rite, in some traditions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam it is the name for a fallen angel. The more you know!★
Samyaza: Is a fallen angel of apocryphal Jewish and Christian tradition that ranked in the heavenly hierarchy as one of the Watchers. The Watchers is a term used in connection with biblical angels. The name ‘Shemyaza’ means ‘the name has seen’ or ‘he sees the name.’
Marlene: I think the character of Marlene, in terms of appearance at least, is a little bit inspired by Marlene Dietrich, a German actress and singer.
We can all agree by now that this anime is quite ridiculous. This episode was quite touching though. When John realized that he had created Marlene with his wish, I got super emotional. Hit me right in the feels!
The storyline was paced like shit, as always, and all those flashbacks within the flashbacks made everything even more confusing and funny. I don’t know exactly what Hiraga was trying to prove from this story to Lauren, but to me it didn’t feel like a miracle at all. Probably John had some issues since he was young and maybe something traumatic happened to him related to his father, that’s why he kind of made up all these stories. But no, I have one comment to make: If Azazel was actually testing humanity, from everything that has happened so far in the show there is one answer to give: Humans are the real monsters.
And one more thing. From things I read so far in my life, I know that in Christianity, making a deal with the devil is a sin, but it’s not unforgivable. But again how can Hiraga, a priest say to someone that he is becoming like God? I mean yes becoming like God and becoming GOD is totally different but I think he is kind of contradicting himself with the things he is saying. Also, if I were to categorize this anime I would create a whole new genre called Christian fantasy.
