Ladies and gentlemen, in this episode of Vatican Miracle Examiner we have a satanic cult inside the church, drugs trafficking, a fake exorcism, rape, a crazy old lady with a deformed baby, Ancient Roman Gods, Nazis in South America, UFOs, corruption in the Vatican, and bloody jump-scares.
Japanese Original Episode Title: 神々の秘密と666の獣
Robert and Hiraga go into the old principal’s office to investigate why all the priests of the Church are so eager to keep everyone away from it. In it, they find the other half of the tally counter along with the ‘Devil’s book’. Soon after that, they are called to exorcise Carlos, who is apparently possessed by some random demon. During the attempt to exorcise him, they realize that the boy is not actually possessed but under the influence of heavy drugs. The poor kid was being drugged and raped constantly by Father Klaus.
Then the guys, with Lauren’s valuable help and information, come to realize that the guard of the Church is actually partially blind in the dark and can’t see things that are not moving, along with the fact that Mario’s stigmata is nothing more than hermatidrosis, a very rare human condition. Since, obviously, in this show, our main characters never take a damn break, they kind of bump into Mary Brown, the daughter of the old principal who gave birth to a deformed baby, making her go completely loco, thus learning more hints and information about what the hell is going on. In the end, Hiraga scoops up that the Nazis are behind all this and he and Robert go to investigate the satanic séances that the students do every now and then, ending up being jump-scared by someone with a skull face and Robert being stabbed.
That bitch slap: Robert smacking the shit out of drugged Carlos with the Bible made me giggle. Good exorcising method mate. THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU! *slaps*
Robert is up to no good: What’s up with this guy? That scene towards the end… He is craving some Hiraga ass or at least that’s what they are trying to imply.
That jumpscare: At the end of the episode, when the skeleton guy pops up, I thought I was the only one that got startled but according to the online anime community that is watching this show, everyone shit their pants.
The guard is suffering from an actual health condition called Astatikopsia or better known as Riddoch syndrome. It’s an eye affectation which limits the sufferer’s ability to distinguish objects. Only moving objects in a blind field are visible, with static ones being invisible to the patient.
Mario Lotte’s stigmata are caused by hematidrosis, which comes from Greek and it means ‘blood and sweat.’ It is a very rare condition in which a human sweats blood. Some people undergo extreme stress levels, ending up having their blood vessels pop and blood coming out through the sweat glands. The more you know!
Lord Janus is based on Ancient Roman religion and is the God of beginnings, gates, transitions, time, duality, and doorways. He is usually depicted as having two faces, since he looks to the future and to the past. He is probably mentioned in the show as a demon because he must have opened the gate to hell or something like that.
The show is actually historically based. I couldn’t believe it but I must say the amount of things that I learn in terms of history and science by watching this anime is quite amazing. Nazis and other fascists were fleeing Europe at the end of World War II. They used a system of escape routes called Ratlines with one of them leading to South America. There were two primary routes: the first went from Germany to Spain, then Argentina; the second from Germany to Rome to Genoa, then South America which is the one that the show based the plot on. The fascist exiles started exploiting this route in order to flee Europe and avoid any criminal sentence. Once again guys, the more you know!
This show is good. I am amazed myself that the plot is so worthy and interesting and it’s really sad to see that the anime is losing its glory because of the bad pacing and directing. If I blink my eyes for one second, I have missed so much that I have to rewind the episode to see what the hell happened. It’s ridiculous.
I am loving how shameless is and how deep into horror this show starts to go. They have rapes, drugs, and all kinds of shit that most anime never even dare to address as subjects. I am looking forward to see what will happen in the next episode, hoping that is not going to be super predictable. My personal theory is that Father McGee is the one behind the virgin conception since he was doing some genetic research in the hospital and eavesdropping Robert and Hiraga when they were going all SCIENCE, BITCH! Father Thomas is definitely involved as we are constantly hinted but I have no clue what is Mario’s deal. Who is the skull guy? I don’t really know and come on, it’s pretty obvious that Robert is not going to die in the next episode. This is not Game of Thrones, after all. Hehe.
Hoping that I won’t get a headache by trying to follow what is happening, I am going to say once again that I am excited to see what is going to follow. Let’s see if the next episode is going to be the last one for this arc. Cheers!
