She can be very critical and geeky but always maintains her fabulousness. She enjoys everything that is anime related. Sometimes she cares more about the seiyuus she likes than the actual plot.
The second episode of Vatican Miracle Examiner was MUCH better than the first one. Don’t get me wrong, the progression of the plot is still chaotic but it was better paced than the introduction to the story in the beginning.
Japanese Original Episode Title: 存在のかぎりなき不安
The story continues with all the mysteries that Joseph and Robert were investigating at the Church of Saint Rosario. Trying to solve the murder of Father Klaus and the weeping statue of Virgin Mary, they find themselves in deeper shit, since two more murders happen the next day. Our sausage-lover Sister Dorothea and Father Francesco are found brutally struggled with some body parts lying around here and there. Finally, they decide to call the police because there is definitely something unholy and sinister happening in that place, and of course the police is going to be of great help...
Despite all that, more strange things occur with Mario Lotte being ‘called by God’ and doing weird shit plus learning that a few of the students of the Academy are involved in seances for fun. After further interrogations, Joseph solves the mystery of the crying statue of the Virgin Mary and also realizes what caused Father’s Klaus death. The episode ends with guess what? ANOTHER MURDER. They find Father Joseph upside-down crucified, saying something about an awakening and a beast.
The Wiping Virgin Mary miracle: The mystery of the crying statue of Virgin Mary was solved rather quickly and with a very smart way. Apparently, everything was done due to condensation and I loved how they used science to solve this one instead of making up some supernatural bullshit.
Robert is so professional I love him:
We didn’t come here to investigate a series of murders and a boy floating in the air
Yeah, you went there to investigate a virgin conception and find the other half of a tally counter. Much better…
According to some articles that I read online, the Miracle Investigators actually exist. They are not accurately portrayed in this anime but the whole idea of Vatican Miracle Examiner is drawn from a Vatican-appointed Miracle Commission that sifts through hundreds or even thousands of miraculous claims. But as it is written in the beginning of every episode, any organizations in this work are fictitious and any resemblance to actual people in entirely coincidental. Also, most of the ‘miracles’ that they are investigating about are medical miracles.
The luminol (C8H7N3O2) thingy that was used to solve the mystery in this episode, is an actual chemical. I was rather surprised myself… It is a chemical that exhibits chemiluminescence (which is the production of light from a chemical reaction), with a blue glow as we saw on the bloody cross with the runes. Forensic investigators use luminol to detect trace amounts of blood at crime scenes, as it reacts with the iron in haemoglobin (the protein molecule in red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to the body’s tissues and returns carbon dioxide from the tissues back to the lungs).
Let me just say one thing that has been on the top of my head since I first saw Mario. If you were into teenage fantasy comic series when you were younger and you were reading , there was a guy that looked exactly like him. EXACTLY. I am talking about , Lord Cedric. I can’t find any good pictures of him which frustrates me greatly, but anyway, you get my point. He ended up being a lizard and Mario is probably Satan so then again, the more you know.
The show is still poorly paced and it lacks continuity between the subsequent events that take place which in my opinion should be more intertwined and deriving from each other. Also the dramatic music in the ‘tense’ and ‘awkward’ moments is hilarious, just imagine the choir screaming like that out of tune.
As the nerdy person that I am, I really enjoy seeing mysteries solved by ACTUAL science. This is something that really entertains me so far in this show. Anything that they mention and it is science related if you look into it, it’s actually legit, something very rare in the anime world. Needless to say that there are so many things to write about the elements of this show that it could take me ages to finish this article but I will leave you guys with the suspense of saving some things for the next one. Let’s hope for more mystery solving shenanigans, nympho nuns, and deformed babies! Cheers!
