Greetings everyone! I hope you have had a great Christmas, or splendid holidays if you are not celebrating Christmas! This year unfortunately, I didn’t get a white Christmas though I was really looking forward to it, but I got to spend the whole day with my friends watching Christmas movies and eating tasty food from all over the world! But anyway, that is enough about my holidays, let’s take our time to talk about Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari’s last episode.
I must say that the anime ended in a quite predictable way. To be honest, I was thinking that I would be more emotionally affected, but I was left with a straight face, no tears, no feeling of loss… Nonetheless, I thought that this was quite a sweet anime, the ending was very touching and lovable as well.
Well then, let us see what happened in the last episode of Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari! Without further ado… here we go!
Japanese Title: かけうどん
I decided to combine the categories for this episode because they are so interlaced it would be hard to talk separately about the Plot and then about the dominant themes in the episode. I do hope you do not mind! Let’s get started!
As we all saw, in the previous episode Poco’s identity got revealed in front of the whole Kagawa population. Pretty much everyone saw Poco’s tail, the kids around there started making a huge ruckus, and the attention of the whole festival was shifted to Poco and Souta. Poco ends up running away from Souta and the crowd, and of course Souta follows him. But we all remember that Souta has a bad leg, he got injured in high school, and the injured leg keeps holding him back. Souta even collapses and falls down. This makes Poco come back to Souta.
The rest of the episode is mainly concentrated on Poco and Souta spending their last minutes together. And guess what? Poco uses his powers to show Souta many things, many things from the past that have been long forgotten, things that Souta couldn’t even know about because he was not there.
One of the most important memories of Souta that we get shown is how he got his leg injury. I assume it will not be a huge surprise for you if I tell you that Souta got run over by a car because he was trying to save a tanuki that was running in the direction of the car. And who might that tanuki be? Of course Poco!
This fact makes the reasons why Poco appeared in front of Souta quite obvious. Poco wanted to thank Souta for being his saviour. And besides that, Poco had always been present there, watching how Souta was fighting with his father, Poco was still there when Souta left, and he was watching over Souta’s father and Rinko.
Poco showed this to Souta as well. Souta finally got to see that even though he ran away from home, never contacted his father, the man was still proud of him. This comes to Souta as a shock. And here is where Poco does his last favour to Souta. Poco creates an opportunity for Souta to talk to his father. Isn’t this the greatest present somebody can get? Poco tells Souta to remember that everyone are in Souta’s heart and soul as long as he remembers them, everyone will be next to him.
Overall, I can say that the theme of the whole anime is family, relationships with the people around you, love and care, memories that are precious to us. Every single episode of this anime made me feel warm and fuzzy somewhere deep down inside.
But with this episode our journey to the world of Udon is over. The anime ended with a phrase along the lines of ‘let’s meet again’, but it is hard to say if this show will get another season. Either way, it was a sweet, heartwarming show that made you rethink the relationships around you.
Thank you for sticking with me and my reviews throughout the whole season! I hope you enjoyed the anime and it made you feel the same way it made me feel. With this Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari is over!
