Things are starting to get more and more interesting. The new characters keep piling up but at least we have seen most of them before and the connections between them start to make a little more sense.
Japanese Original Episode Title: 蠢くモノ TAKe
Tsukiyama can’t handle his hunger and he is slowly losing control of himself and his kagune. Meanwhile, Ayato asks to go rescue Hinami from Cochlea but his request is rejected. Haise visits Hinami in Cochlea and he is approached by the Furuta and Kijima investigators who tell him that they will be working together in the upcoming investigation. In the headquarters of CCG, the Quinx Squad along with Furuta, Kijima, and Ihei are being informed about their new mission of capturing the Rose organization. As they go out to investigate Furuta and Kijima, they are attacked by Rose and Investigator Hei manages to arrest Yuuma, one of their members. Kanae decides to deliver the photos of Sasaki that Chie gave him to his master Shuu where he realizes that Haise is actually Kaneki.
Kanae’s running sequence: Honestly, this was the best scene during the whole episode. Was his face meant to be like this or not? In any case, he looks so goofy and hilarious. I am talking about this.
Mirumo-sama: When he goes completely out of character and starts screaming out the window, I was really caught off guard. They really had fun including some odd scenes in this episode.
Kanae and Shuu: Their relationship is finally explained in this episode, and after watching it, I honestly believe that Kanae has the same kind of obsession about Shuu as Shuu has with Kaneki. Judging from the flashbacks presented to us, Shuu was never really a bad guy. He just loved to eat gourmet stuff which made him a bit dangerous. It is great to learn more about his character, where he came from and how he ended up being in this state after everything that happened.
Is Haise losing or finding himself? As the episodes go by, Haise looks more and more confused about his personality. Is he starting to remember things and merging slowly back to the old Kaneki, or he just maintains his personality as Kaneki slowly starts to surface? His hair is becoming darker every episode because Kaneki is taking over or because he finally starts to find some balance?
Uta’s eyes: Finally, I mean finally, he explained why his eyes are like this. They are tattooed, well yes, of course! Now it makes sense that when Haise was in the café in the last episode he didn’t even care about Uta’s ghoul eyes at all. Damn it Uta you are so cool.
The girl in the bakery: You might not recognize her, because her hair color is different but the girl in the bakery is actually Yoriko Kosaka, Touka’s best friend from school.
Who is Chie Hori? It is mentioned in the OVA Tokyo Ghoul: PINTO, that Chie and Tsukiyama are high school friends. Chie likes to take photos of things that she finds interesting and one day she got a picture of Shuu hunting during the night and Shuu instead of killing her spared her life as he found her lack of empathy around dead humans somehow fascinating. In the light novels, it is mentioned that she follows Shuu around during his hunts and he buys her sweets, that’s why CCG has evidence that she has been aiding the ghouls.
I really liked the scene between Uta and Haise, although nothing really came out from it (probably because details from the manga were skipped or missed) except the fact that we learned that Uta’s eyes are tattooed, but honestly it was great to see him interact with someone from his past like nothing happened. Also, why did Haise asked him if he makes custom masks? Is it because he figured out something or he wanted Uta to make him a new mask?
Okay, am I the only one that thinks that Shiki Kijima looks really similar with Yoko Taro’s work? Maybe Ishida was inspired by him or something? Both look equally creepy.
It will be very interesting to see how Haise and Kaneki’s personalities will come to terms in the future. Also, the Investigator Hairu Ihei looks like a lot of trouble. I also really hope that Shuu will get better, because it breaks my heart to see him like this. I want him up and running and saying random French words as he used to do.
