I don’t think I have ever been more confused while watching a Tokyo Ghoul episode. So many characters were popping out of everywhere, most of them already acquainted, and we don’t have a clue as to how and why they know each other. On top of that, they all wear masks that make everything even more confusing.
Japanese Original Episode Title: オークション MAIN
The auction has started and apparently, all the characters of Tokyo Ghoul are assembled together there. Toru has been kidnapped along with Suzuya and they are being sold at the auction. Toru was sold to Big Madam and Suzuya initiated an assault before they even begin his auction which started a big mess. CCG and ghouls are commencing to fight each other. The Aogiri Tree along with every other big-time ghoul force out there are sent out to brutally kill everyone, while Eto is watching them and decides to send out a mysterious ghoul called Takizawa. Meanwhile, Toru manages to flee from the Nutcracker but Tsukiyama’s assistant finds him and then starts fighting with Torso to see who will be the one to keep him.
Juuzou Suzuya: He was really badass in this episode and cute dressed up as a Lolita. When he opened his prosthetic leg, I was so impressed that we finally got some kind of a continuation from last season. If you remember, he was beaten up pretty badly by Owl, so it was a mystery how he could walk and move so well in general. But then again the fact that his hair turned black is a mystery as well…
Shuu’s assistant: Okay, I do not speak German but seriously this guy made me cry when he pronounced the German words. I really can’t wait to hear him say his things in German and Shuu in French. It will be the conversation of the century.
Like father like daughter: That was such a nice touch. If you noticed when Akira said ‘Leave him to me’ and made this face she had the exact same insane look that her father used to have back in Season 1.
Takizawa: That guy looks like trouble. I love his design and I think he will give us some really bloody and violent scenes really soon.
What do the German words mean: Shuu’s assistant was just spitting German every now and then, and even though his pronunciation is hilarious and you think that no way is he saying something with an actual meaning, everything he said actually makes sense. ‘Kätzchen’ means ‘kitten,’ ‘blitz’ means ‘lightning,’ ‘glorreich’ means ‘glorious’, and ‘schieße’ means ‘shit’ or just ‘damn it.’ I couldn’t help to not include the amazing definition given by urban dictionary here.
Croque-monsieur: One of the top ghoul bidders in the auction was called Croque monsieur which literally means in French ‘Mister Crunch.’ A croque monsieur is a baked or fried boiled ham-and-cheese sandwich. The dish originated in French cafés and bars as a quick snack. A croque madame is a version of the dish topped with a fried egg. The sandwich’s first recorded appearance on a Paris café menu was in 1910.
It is happening guys. I think this season is actually being quite faithful to the manga and that’s why people who haven’t read the manga will be left so confused. The previous seasons have ignored a lot of important details and content, and if you haven’t read the manga, I think many things are missed or misunderstood in this season. I mean so far so good, but they really must work miracles in order to fill in all the backstories of all these characters in the next few episodes in order to fill up all the plot holes, which is definitely going to be hard to do so if they plan to animate more chapters from the manga.
One thing I honestly loved in this episode was Suzuya’s scene when he started throwing knives everywhere. The action, the quote, and mostly the background music were so good. It is very interesting to see how much he has changed. He didn’t even react when he saw Big Madam (at least not yet).
I really liked the Takizawa guy and I really look forward to seeing more of him in the next episode. Although I am still very confused with all these characters, and although this anime is starting to look more like a freak show, I am really curious to see what will follow.
