Another episode that had some interesting points but other than that was filled once again with inconsistent power levels and badly paced battles as well as a bunch of characters that nobody knows who they are or cares about anymore. Oh yes and of course, Touka-chan, TOUKA-Chan, TOUKA-CHAN!
Japanese Original Episode Title: めざめた子 incarnation
In the banquet of Kaneki and Touka’s wedding, Mutsuki and the rest of the CCG forces invade and start attacking them. Meanwhile, Urie and Kuroiwa go to confront Furuta in the CCG headquarters and try to prove that he does not take sane and reasonable decisions. When they go inside his office, they are attacked by Roma who ends up being the SSS rate ghoul named Dodgy Mother and Shikorae, where Kuroiwa gets badly injured but Urie manages to kill them both. Furuta stabs Kuroiwa in the head and later on, Maruda comes in and shoots him but doesn’t kill him. He is accompanied by Hide who asks for Urie’s help. Deep underground, Touka is fighting with Mutsuki while Tsukiyama, Nishio, and Yomo are against the Suzuya squad and Kaneki fights the Oggai squad. Soon, Suzuya starts attacking Kaneki and they engage into a huge fight but Kaneki realizes that Touka is cornered and in danger and goes to her rescue. After being brutally torn to pieces by the Oggai squad, Kaneki releases his inner beast and produces probably the biggest kagune ever seen.
Hide is back: So basically he didn’t die, and he was going around as Scarecrow all this time? To be honest, I was kind of expecting him to show up one way or another, and the timing is perfect now because he will certainly be the one who will shake Kaneki back into his senses after going berserk once again.
Kaneki Vs Suzuya: This fighting scene was probably the most decent animation we have seen so far in this season. I would even dare to say that it was better made than the one of Arima and Kaneki (which is unacceptable). Overall, it felt more important than it should have but again the electricity from Suzuya’s suit and the pacing of the battle was better executed than usual.
Rize’s kagune: So how many god damn pieces or DNA or whatever did they get from poor Rize when she passed away? The crazy doctor seems to be using her kagune like it’s nothing. First Kaneki, then Furuta then all these ‘failures’ that he had in his lab and now the Oggai squad? If Rize is alive somehow, there will be no one saving them from her rage.
Kaneki embraced the inner beast: After the intense dialogue of repeating Touka’s name for probably more than twenty times, Kaneki has his moment where all his personalities are discussing if he can keep on fighting and then the berserk version of him tells him that he should always keep walking, like a centipede and then he goes insane. I am not going to lie, that scene was super badass but again very mediocre. The execution of everything just kills it for me, I don’t know. Also, why did Furuta called him, his ‘dragon’? Was this his plan all along? To make Kaneki lose his mind and destroy everything? I though the dragon was that girl that we saw in the previous episode, can she be Rize or Eto? I honestly have no freaking idea anymore.
In case you are feeling lost: If you have things that you don’t get then you should definitely check the recap and character guides done for all the episode in Reddit here.
The anime at this point is at the peak of its demise. No words can describe how disappointed I am from these series. It started so great and now we are at the point where I have to literally pause the episode a couple of time and google stuff in order to be able to grasp who everyone is and what is going on. Manga readers are just hating on this as well, so I don’t really know what to say anymore. I kind of hope that there will be a remake of the whole series somewhere in the future, because the production of this show is just absolutely awful to watch.
Despite the constant fighting between everyone, there was actually good premise for many interesting things. I am looking forward to see what Hide wants to do at this point.
