This week’s episode of Tokyo Ghoul left me overwhelmed, confused, and kind of creeped out. I honestly asked myself countless times: ‘What the hell is going on?’ and at this point, I feel like I am just watching a weird and violent freak show.
Japanese Original Episode Title: 欠落者 writE
The CCG has invaded the Tuskiyama hideout and are killing each other like there is no tomorrow. Tsukiyama says goodbye to his friends as they tell him to head to the rooftop and escape on a helicopter. Kori Ui sends Sasaki to the rooftop where he comes face to face with Tsukiyama. Meanwhile, Kanae has arrived in the hideout and starts killing the CCG. Ihei is fighting with Mastumae and Matsumae manages to deliver the final fatal move that ends up killing Ihei. Then, Kijima arrives but Matsumae slices him in half. Furuta then dodges Matsumae’s attacks and kills her with Kijima’s Quinque. The Quinx squad and other CCG members come to face the monstrous Noro who seems to be incapable of dying with his amazing regenerating skills. As Sasaki still fights Tsukiyama on the rooftop, Kanae steps in and cuts off his hand. Sasaki then remembers Arima mocking him for his defeat and escapes Kanae. During the last scene, we see Eto arriving as the One-Eyed Owl.
Eto and her freaks: Seriously, what is she doing to them and they end up like this? Kanae is completely fucked up as well now even though he seemed to regain his consciousness in the end. But that thing Noro… what the hell is he and what exactly did Eto do to him in order to become such a horrible monster? She is starting to seriously creep me out.
Matsumae Vs Ihei, Kijima: Okay, Matsumae was a great character and I really enjoyed her scenes in this episode. I am actually glad that she killed Ihei and Kijima because, honestly, these two were really fucked up in the head. It’s funny how CCG is portrayed to be less human than the actual ghouls. I laughed so much in the killing scene of Kijima: ‘-Kijima-san! –Oh! –Oh! –FANCULO!’ and then he says ‘Cheese, I want to eat cheese’, seriously what was wrong with that guy??
Arima and Haise: So Arima is kind of deranged as well? And he uses Haise or more like Kaneki as his living quinque? Haise is going to go on berserk mode soon and Arima is not going to like it one bit.
Kanae is a girl? Okay, I didn’t see that coming at all, but I was sure that he or maybe she was in love with Shuu. Now her whole character and reactions to everything make so much more sense.
A few things about Kanae: Kanae’s name actually comes from the first letters of her family: Karren, Nathanel, Arunolt, Emma. The manga has more details on why Kanae is trying to kill Haise. She mutters, ‘I will kill you…to return with Shuu-sama…return to that bed…’ She also gives an answer to Eto’s question about why Eve decided to eat the forbidden the apple – to love (and to be loved) as man and woman, which makes us presume that she was indeed in love with Shuu and jealous of his relationship with Kaneki.
Nutcracker: The Nutcracker is an S rated quinque that combines several characteristics: detachability, good extend-ability, the ability to sense and react, and the hardness of a Koukaku Kagune.
They missed an important detail: Arima is supposed to point his weapon at Haise’s EYE, not just generally at his head. Something that shows that he threatens Kaneki, not Haise himself.
If you are interested in reading more about details and additional info that might have been missed in this episode you should check this post.
What the hell was that guy doing at the beginning when he attacked Kijima? He said: ‘Curses, Master Mirumo’ and then had a Fullmetal Alchemist moment with his hands like he was ready to use alchemy and then he died. What the hell.
Loved Kanae’s quote: ’Do you know why roses are considered beautiful? Because you pick them up before they wilt’
We finally got to see Saiko’s powers although nothing was too clear about them. I also loved it when she called Haise CCG’s ninja. Last thing, the violence in this episode was so unexpected and gross. When Furuta put his fingers into Matsumae’s eyes I honestly shrieked.
I can’t wait to see more of Haise fighting Shuu and oh boy… Eto is coming. I am scared to see what will follow when she will arrive. Also, probably Kaneki is going to show up in his full glory. They better play Unravel when this happens or else they will feel the rage.
