It’s not just a cuteness war now between Raphtalia and Filo; it’s also who can be the clingiest towards Naofumi. This week’s episode was great, and it kicked things back a notch to focus on our merry group. Naofumi is gaining more traction with his new business venture and Filo and Raphtalia will do anything for their new master.
Japanese Original Title: 神鳥の聖人
The merchant asks Naofumi to deliver herbicide for a village which is overrun by a monstrous plant problem. Thanks to Motoyasu, the ‘spear hero’, uncovering a seed, part of a legend, that ended the low supply of food for the village, brought nothing but chaos after the plant started to mutate and attack the village. The villagers plead Naofumi to save them and he turns this plant problem into a benefit instead. Meanwhile, a visit to a hot spring has Raphtalia steamy with jealousy.
Honest Filo: This bird may be cute and sweet on the outside but inside I believe is deadly. Venturing on Naofumi’s request to bring back some adventurers, she spouts aloud how weak they are taking on a daunting task that is beneath them. These moments are hysterical of Filo; deadly cute.
Strut The Shield Stuff: With every new shield addition Naofumi gains, our hero is getting stronger. We got to see Naofumi’s fearless nature when the plant monster was about to attack and then Naofumi uses his bio plant shield, tossing it aside like it was nothing. Badass moment. I admire all the knowledge and intel Naofumi is gaining for himself in this strange world. He experimented with the plant monster seeds and reconfigured its plant structure to produce edible fruit for the villagers to eat. Heroes like Motoyasu who are relying on Princess Malty’s assistance would be a boring ass protagonist for this series. Motoyasu, I believe, would not apply himself to learn of what’s around him like Naofumi is, taking every situation and trying to make something of it. It makes me so glad Naofumi is this series main protagonist because he just perfect for the plot set up.
Steamy Raphtalia: More Raphtalia pouting moments for future episodes PLEASE! There is just nothing more adorable than seeing Raphtalia jealous. Hysterical moment thinking if you kiss someone you’ll get pregnant, this shows Raphtalia still has some maturing to do in the series.
Filo and Raphtalia Bond: Second half of this episode was really sweet and hysterical. The pining feeling of wanting to gain praise from Naofumi for both Raphtalia and Filo. I loved that what they gave Naofumi was useful and not a gem. It signified they both will do anything for Naofumi but at the same time, has caused a cute, clingy war between the two. It’s added a humorous bonus into the mix.
Blind Pure Belief: Naofumi pointed out how gullible the villagers were for taking the risk of accepting the seed, knowing the dangerous legend behind – of why it was sealed away. You can call the villagers fools for their actions. Being blind by their own pure belief, this was their only choice. People can be swoon over so easily with persuasion adding to their self belief and in moments of desperation like for the villagers you’d be willing to take any risk. If when becoming blinded from your own belief of survival.
Another enthralling episode with a dash of cuteness thrown in the second half. Loved the first half that showcased how much our shield hero has learned since arriving in this screwed up world. He looked badass while annihilating that plant monster like it was nothing. My favorite part was how clingy Raphtalia and Filo have become towards Naofumi, especially Raphtalia. The part Filo launching herself all over Naofumi and saying ‘I wuv you’ then Raphtalia pouting ahh was just everything. Please more pouty Raphtalia, please!. This episode I felt Filo and Raphtalia bonded a lot, unlike in the last episode, and it was cute.
I’d be clingy as hell if I was on Naofumi’s team, wouldn’t you? I’m excited for next episode as our gang head to the east where it looks grim!
