I’m knocking my head ον why this episode was called ‘The Frankenstein’. Despite my excitement last week, the unveiling of this artificial creature was far from what I Imagined. That was disappointing… However, this episode had plenty of action: train chases, siblings meet once again… It was all happening.
Japanese Original Title: フランケンシュタイ
Yuliy and Mikhail’s brotherly encounter is filled with confliction and anguish. We’re given a first glance at Vampire scientist Klarwein’s frankenstein creation, which is frankly disappointing. All the effort τηε Vampires went to collect Artificial organs raises questions – at the vampires’ intentions. Hyakko terrorist group cause ruckus situation taking over the train, jaegers are on board and hope to get revenge against Kershner.
Ryoko Wants In: I’ve been saying for the past two episodes that Ryoko is bringing nothing of value to the series. In this episode, Ryoko totally caught me off guard in the moment she jumped int to kill that Vampire. The girl has guts and gumption… Maybe I can’t rule her out yet. Ryoko’s character isn’t the most annoying I’ve seen in anime, though. The expectation of being given serious meaning for the plot was low until now but the next episode preview shared glimpses of Ryoko being the central focus, so let’s see what happens.
Angle Animation: It is indeed glorious, intricate animation to have for this series. The animation really stood out, especially during the train fight. The incredible detail of angle we saw of the train was just beautiful and felt authentic and truly believable. The animation makes the time period of the 1930s come to life.
Conflicted Brothers: Big brother has joined the vampires and it will end in tragedy. These were my first initial thoughts but towards the end of the episode, Mikhail tells Yuliy that he could be the one to harness the ‘box’. Is it the Arc of Sirius?. Who knows at this point. Right now, I believe anyone. Yuliy’s beloved brother Mikhail is completely gone, killing that disappointment of a Frankenstein knock-off, instead of Yuliy and then Mikhail asks Yuliy to kill him. You can’t tell me that there isn’t more to the story here.
No More Hyako Party? So much for revenge, Hyaako parties’ leader’s killed off already and then they run away. That was laughable. What was the point of this group?
Revenge – Since Yuliy was a young child, the desire of revenge has consumed him. Assuming his brother had perished before the Vampires, deciding to become a Jaeger and kill every Vampire he sees. The reappearance of Yuliy’s brother has brought confliction for Yuliy, and even this episode Mikhail highlighting the fact revenge will get Yuliy nowhere. Yuliy at some point will have to find a new resolve for himself, in this vengeance for killing vampires – also dealing with this brother.
Hideomi Iba – Secret agent for the Military Affairs of Bureau, rumors spread that his bureau are in involved with a ‘unknown’ organisation. Iba is sent to investigate, sets his sights on V shipping company and Alma company as they raise much suspiciousness. Iba poses as a writer for a criminal magazine.
Out of all the things that happened in this episode, the one that has me more interested is the Sirius Arc. We know from Yuliy’s past that his family were protectors of the Arc and obviously Yuliy has everything to do with it. I haven’t addressed this part of the plot until now but it’s been mentioned enough times. It would be nice to find out at some point. Anyway, beside that slight frustration, this episode was filled with action. The train sequence was definitely a highlight, especially gutless Ryoko taking down a Vampire without much fear. She might just grow on me.
Oh yeah… We also have to address the other disappointment of this episode, the Frankenstein knock-off. I’m sorry, but that artificial creature was a total joke and pointless part to have within the plot. Unless this was just a decoy and the collected organs were for a bigger purpose, I’m all for this if that occurs. If you’re telling us that knock-off creature was what the Vampires worked towards, stealing artificial organs for… it was just pointless and wasteful, which I want to believe is not the case. All in all, it was a good episode.
This series so far has given me no reason to dislike it. In fact, I’m falling more in love with it every week. It’s still my hope we will get to learn more about our Jaegers, Arc Of Sirius and the Vampires’ plans. Next few episodes, let’s pray we get some closure on any one of these.
Tell us in the comments below your thoughts of this episode? Do you think that frankenstein knock off was a joke? Did you enjoy the action?
