Hello everyone! I hope you enjoyed Episode 11 of Sword Oratoria. I personally would say it wasn’t a bad one, but not exactly the perfect episode either. Maybe a bit fast-paced and filled with too many details.
With only one episode until the finale, I have to say that the Gaiden was well made in general, but I wish we could see a bit more of Bell. I really don’t think we will find out too much about all the Aria business in just one episode.
Either way! Let’s not dwell on those random thoughts for too long and get straight to the review of the latest episode.
Japanese Original Episode Title: 冒険と未知
The episode was mainly centered on the Loki Familia members heading to the 59th floor from the 50th floor. In the beginning of the episode, we get to see a lot of pissed off, or rather grumpy, Loki Familia members, who are thinking about something. You might have guessed, those are the characters who saw Bell fighting with the Minotaur and are more or less depressed, surprised, and unhappy with their selves.
And then there is Lefiya, who didn’t get to see Bell’s fighting, but who is more than depressed. She still has the feelings of jealousy and starts feeling like she is not moving forward at all.
Either way, Finn announces the group that will move forward in the dungeon, and with the next morning they start the expedition of the unseen.
Of course, a lot things don’t go as planned. I won’t concentrate too much on the details though. I will say that Lefiya was quite the hindrance. I mean, it’s all cool when you’re bypassing the levels like that in seconds, but this caused a bit of disturbance in the formation, and might have had a totally different outcome. Though on the other hand, you really have to admit that Lefiya’s magic is quite amazing, when she manages to cast it properly that is.
And finally, when they get to the 59th floor some surprising things were awaiting them. The ice glacier that 59th floor was said to be was now a jungle, meaning that something happened in this place and it changed drastically.
What greeted them a bit further ahead might have exceeded all of our expectations. It was one of those plants merged with the magical orb. The scream was quite the taunting one for all of the adventurers, but Aiz seemed to recognize it. She called it a spirit… Now wait a second: weren’t Aria the ones who were called spirits? Confusing.
I found it interesting to see Tsubaki, the blacksmith, talking to Aiz about the past. It’s hard to tell her age, but she is a high-skilled and high-leveled blacksmith, so she probably has been around for quite sometime and she is also probably older than Aiz. Thanks to this conversation though, we got to find out that Aiz came to Oraria around nine years ago. She was broken, harsh, and would be fighting/training all the time. This apparently gave the idea to Tsubaki, that Aiz won’t last long like this. However, now after nine years, Aiz has changed, and just as Tsubaki said, ‘You have a gentler expression.’ They talked into the late hours of the night.
The night was also busy for the other members of the vanguard group. Everybody was pumped up for a reason or another.
Talking about the members though: We had all four of level six members in the group. Even though we had seen Riveria in action before, and Finn too to a degree, I can’t remember if we can say the same about Gareth. But believe it or not, for a grandpa he was pretty damn amazing.
Themes & Trivia
The episode also showed us the redhead (whose name I forgot, orz). She was talking about fighting Aria, Aiz that is, and about eating some magic stones. The name Enyo was mentioned, and having no memory of who that might be, all I can do is assume that Enyo is the goddess whom the redhead serves. Would be nice if the next episode elaborated on that too. I am highly doubting that the goddess is Freya, though.
I’m pretty sure that for the first time in two seasons, we got to hear about the Zeus Familia. Finn was talking about their records concerning the 59th floor and further. Now think about this, if they had been to the 59th floor and further, to a place where nobody else in modern Oraria has gone yet, the Zeus Familia must have had incredible strength. And if that’s the case, there is no way in the freaking universe that they wouldn’t be mentioned in both seasons. I’m just going to assume that something happened and the Familia fell apart and disbanded.
To the Finale!
Well that’s for the episode and review. I hope you enjoyed both. You might be somebody who has read the LN and manga and isn’t enjoying the Gaiden series, or you might be someone like me who hasn’t read neither LN nor the manga, and is enjoying the show but was hoping for something better. Either way I hope that at least seeing how cute Aiz is can lighten up your day!
Well, we have one more episode to go, so see you in the next review of Sword Oratoria! Make sure to leave some comments and discuss this episode or any other about Danmachi in the comments below!
