Trying to cut a huge tree with a legendary sword just to finish the job quickly and then go on an adventure? Yup, sounds like Kirito’s logic all the way.
Japanese Original Episode Title: 果ての山脈
Kirito desperately wants to go to the city and tries to think of ways that Eugeo could fulfill his ‘Calling’ faster. While cutting the Demon Tree, Eugeo elaborates more about Alice being taken prisoner by the Integrity Knights and he reveals to Kirito that he has retrieved the Blue Rose Sword from the End Mountains. Kirito and Eugeo attempt to wield it and cut the tree with it, but they find out that they are not skilled enough to use it, yet. Back into the church, Kirito has a conversation with Selka, where we found out that she is Alice’s younger sister and he tells her the reason why Alice was taken away, which was kept secret to her for all this time. The next day, she disappears and both Kirito and Eugeo realize that she must have gone to the End Mountains after hearing about her sister. Arriving at the mountains they find that Selka has been captured by goblins. The goblins prepare to attack them and Eugeo gets paralyzed by fear.
Eugeo’s patience is a virtue indeed: This guy has been chopping the tree for all these years and he doesn’t seem to complain about it one bit, just patiently working on it. On top of that, he went to get the Blue Rose Sword from the End Mountains and took him three god damn months to bring it to the village. This guy deserves a metal.
Selka reminds him of Sugu? Kirito thought that Sugu was waking him up at the beginning then realized that it was Selka. Was he just sleepy or does this mean more about the character’s development? Is it possible that the people in-game are kind of inspired by Kirito’s memories, family, and friends?
That cliffhanger: Sword Art Online has been doing this for years and at this point they just do cliffhangers in every episode really well. I loved how Kirito told Eugeo to hide so they can at least see what their options of attack are but then Eugeo as soon as he sees Selka, just stands up and screams out her name. Don’t be mad at him Kirito, he is new to this.
Eugeo likes Selka? Oh Kirito, you blind FOOLISH creature! It is obvious that he cares for her but is afraid to get close to her because he feels remorse after what happened to her sister. I mean come on Kirito, it is crystal clear that he has feelings for her.
Themes & Trivia
Why isn’t Eugeo insanely ripped? If you are like me and you were wondering how it is possible that this guy, who has been swinging an axe at a tree two hundred times every day for the past seven years, is not just JACKED WITH SIXPACKS, I have a fun fact for you my friend.
In the books it is actually mentioned that Eugeo is in better shape than Kirito. Kirito even says that his form is inferior to his, since Eugeo has been swinging a ‘real’ weapon with ‘real’ limitations for most of his life, compared to him that he just did some kendo in the real world. Also, Kirito’s body is not a real copy of his real life self and he just has the body of an average seventeen years old of that world.
That bath scene made me laugh so hard. Personally, any fanservice scenes of Kirito have no appeal to me but I understand the female fandoms out there. I just have to comment the fact that when he looked down on his crotch we just saw the reflection of his face. I thought to myself: ‘So does this mean that he is a dick-head?’ and started giggling. I am sorry guys…
The next episode will be quite interesting since both Kirito and Eugeo are completely unarmed and helpless in front of the goblins. If Kirito gets his hands on a sword that he can actually wield then this is going to be easy peasy, but something is telling me that Eugeo is going to steal the show during this fight. His eye will turn all Matrix-like again and he will perform insane console and system comman—*goughs*, sorry, I meant sacred arts…
Eugeo? Eugeo?! EUGEEOOOO!
I just love the pacing of the show so far, everything is kept consistently pretty, and the plot keeps you intrigued. This is so pleasant to watch, it honestly puts me in a very calm and relaxing mood every time I watch it. It still feels likes you are watching a film and not a show. Great vibes.
