Uhm… how bloody amazing was the fight between Deusolbert, Kirito, and Eugeo? I am at a loss for words. Also, it seems like Eugeo’s master skill is not useful for combat. Jeez, I wonder if he can pass his sword to Kirito and he can dual wield or something like that…
Japanese Original Episode Title: 紅蓮の騎士
Kirito and Eugeo are back to the Cathedral and manage to retrieve their swords just before they get attacked by one of the Integrity Knights. The Knight seems to be OP, with moves that utilize arrows and flames. Despite his great skills, Eugeo defeats the Knight with Kirito’s help and he recognizes him as the same knight who took Alice into custody eight years ago. They soon discover that his memories when he was human as well as prior to this event have also been erased by the administrator. The Knight also warns them that multiple Integrity Knights are waiting for them at the Cathedral’s 50th floor with orders to kill them on sight, so they should think of a better strategy than just barging in and start attacking them. On the way there, Kirito and Eugeo discuss what kind of strategy they should follow in order to deal with the knights, but suddenly two little girls appear before them.
The Crimson Knight fight: I cannot stop being surprised by the amazing production quality of the series. I mean honestly, this battle must have taken them DAYS to perfect to such extend. The sound of the swords, the flames, the armor, and the general audio and voice acting of the scene was superb; and can we take a moment to appreciate the amazing fire and smoke effects?? I think it’s the first time in my life that I am watching an anime and I can feel that the atmosphere is getting hot because of the character’s specific moves. Outstanding job. I am honestly speechless.
The Integrity Knights are not so loyal after all: I mean come on, the administrator is the equivalent of their God and as soon as they meet Kirito and Eugeo, they tell them ‘Oh you know, she has brainwashed you and erased your memories, so bummer’ they just believe them and turn their backs at her? I think Quinella needs to check her admin status because SHE IS GOING DOWN.
Should we change our outfits just in case? I laughed so hard in that scene. They took their swords back, decided not to use an armor because they have never fought with one before but yes sure let’s conveniently change our clothes here, and oh look! They are in the same colors as our previous outfits! How fittingly hilarious.
Eugeo lost it: So they freed his mind from the restrictions of the taboo index during the awful rape scene, so now he doesn’t have to abide by the laws, but damn that dude is short-tempered. Eugeo, you don’t have to kill every single enemy you fight with, just because you can. Calm down.
Themes & Trivia
Nikuman: So in case you were wondering what exactly they were eating, the name of these steamed buns is nikuman (肉まん; derived from 肉饅頭 niku (meat) manjū). It is basically the Japanese name for the Chinese baozi (包子) made from flour dough, and filled with cooked ground pork, beef, or other ingredients. Nikuman are steamed and often sold as street food. During festivals, they are frequently sold and eaten. From about August or September, through the winter months until roughly the beginning of April, Nikuman are available at convenience stores, where they are kept hot.
The new opening seems to be really nice as well, although I dig the previous song more than this one, but it’s all right. Also, another thing that I would like to mention is the fact that the Cathedral is not as heavily secured as I thought it would be. I mean you would imagine that they would have guards on every floor, but nooo, Kirito and Eugeo can casually walk on the stairs of the most important building in this world and even take a break to eat steamed buns and discuss their strategies. Oh Sword Art Online, you are funny.
I loved the way the Crimson Knight said System Call and his voice acting was pretty epic in general. Judging from the next episode’s title, it seems like the boys will be fighting another Integrity Knight. This starts to feel like an actual video game where you fight every boss’s floor but because it’s SAO they do it every 20, so it’s not going to get tedious.
