Even though we got to see Alice after such a long time, it seems like someone has changed her memories and she doesn’t remember Eugeo. Nevertheless, our boys escape and get ready for action.
Japanese Original Episode Title: セントラル・カセドラル
Eugeo is certain that the knight in front of them is Alice and tries to approach her, but she does not recognize him. She hits him and takes them into custody. Kirito and Eugeo are seen off by their pages, Tiese and Ronia, where they brought their swords and where Tiese promises Eugeo that she will become an Integrity Knight and come rescue him in the future. In the real world, Asuna is introduced to the first prototype of a robot that is being developed at the Ocean Turtle and encounters some dodgy-looking scientists. After being taken to the prison of the Central Cathedral, Eugeo and Kirito manage to escape and proceed to reach the top of the Central Cathedral but Alice, having predicted their move, sends another Integrity Knight to seize them.
Tiese and Ronie: Okay, I get the whole deal of them feeling bad for everything that happened and coming to apologize to Kirito and Eugeo before they are taken to the prison, I get the whole ‘We brought you your swords’ situation and I also get the fact that Tiese has feelings for Eugeo and that’s why she reacts all melodramatic. But what is Ronie’s deal? She could just be there and see them off but instead she brought a lunch for Kirito to eat in jail? (A lunch that he will be unable to eat because all their belongings get confiscated) Wtf? Even Kirito’s face in that scene is just hilariously ridiculous.
Don’t think too much about it: I love how Kirito is super cool with murdering people now. Poor Eugeo has been a woodcutter so far in his life and he is traumatized by everything that just happened but Kirito is like ‘No, don’t think too much about it and focus on your next goal, because you need to be badass like me’. This show is getting so entertaining.
Ichiemon and Niemon? Seriously? That guy should definitely stop naming things.
Themes & Trivia
What’s the deal with the roses? Apparently, flowers in the Underworld are a big deal. Roses are special and they don’t grow anywhere else on their own. They are ranked higher than the ‘four great sacred flowers’ bearing fruits that stored sacred power of high purity: anemones, marigolds, dahlias, and cattleyas. Cultivation of these was prohibited for even nobles and those from the imperial family, let alone commoners, and the few wild ones that grew sparsely in the hills and fields were said to fetch an outrageous price in Centoria’s marketplace when found. That’s why they were both shocked to see so many in the garden, which makes me think that the ‘Blue Rose Sword’ will be a big deal later on…
The poor guard: In the light novels, Kirito actually feels for the guard when they escape as his calling is basically to sleep in that room for his entire life with no one to guard. There is a whole monologue of Kirito that mentions: ‘Day after day, he must have repeated nothing but that as his own job. So many times that he did not even stir from his sleep when we made that much noise.’
Asuna and the robot: Another monologue that was quite funny and was skipped from the anime is Asuna’s trail of thoughts when she encounters the robot on the staircase. The light novel mentions: ‘Monsters shouldn’t spawn on the staircase leading between floors; there shouldn’t be any machine-type mobs in the first place; no, wait, this should be the real world; such confusing thoughts flooded her mind as Asuna got ready to flee back to where she came from when that happened—’.
After seeing the scene of Asuna encountering those suspicious-looking scientists in Ocean Turtle, I started to believe that the guy with the long hair is probably the guy from the first episodes that attacked her and Kirito, the last member of Laughing Coffin. Can it be? If I am correct, how the hell did he get there without being recognized and how did he manage to find out about this top secret project??
Let’s end it on a blissful note.
It will be very interesting to see them face an Integrity Knight without any weapons. Yes, they have their chains but Integrity Knights are supposed to be the most badass fighters of the Underworld so it will be like fighting them in Hard Mode. Let’s see how this will turn out (maybe Sortiliena senpai will show up).
