The sixth episode was less chaotic than the previous ones and it was a pleasant surprise. The series might still be a clutter, but at least we get to understand more stuff at the moment. The same hotfoot pattern is still present while the supporting characters easily steal the spotlight from the mains. New revelations about the Agency and its true purpose are ahead of us, so let’s take a closer look!
We witnessed an endless battle, where Souma was attacking everyone once again. This little brat is struggling to destroy whoever stands in his path, but all turned out almost fine. We got deeper in the supporting characters’ backstories, and finally, I managed to get attached with a hero. While the ‘plot’ is unfolding, new exposures come to the surface. The agency used to cast experiments on children, and Takuya had a part in this, maybe as a caretaker. Further, I get the feeling that somehow Yuki’s and Souma’s father is involved with Lost, since his two children are the only survivors and they have superpowers connected to the artifacts. Plus, he needed a bodyguard to protect them, though he couldn’t be a Saint himself…
Up to this point, it’s pretty obvious that everyone -literally EVERYONE- is somehow related to the Agency. But, the connection between the characters is still unknown, as well as their past. I expect that in the next episode we will take a closer look at Takuya’s old times. Since we’re already in the middle of the series, I think things will eventually start to get in their place.
Flashbacks: It was by far the most touching part of the episode. We got to know better some minor characters and learned more of their past. This made us sympathize them and feel their emotions! Finally, it was about time to get attached to a hero.
Family comes first: This episode showed that family comes first and nothing beats up this kind of love. When Yuki convinces her team to accept Souma in an attempt to save him, and when it’s revealed that the magician’s brother did everything he could to protect him, what was said is now clearly proved.
The honorable thieves: This episode showed that looks might be deceiving, considering the fact that the world’s most famous thieves had a pure motive. Also, they protected each other, since they are the only family they have left and didn’t mind risking their lives for their purpose. They are the anti-hero heroes of the day!
AFTERLOST seems to be the type of series where we’ll get all the answers in the last episode. Though, with no further relationship building between the characters and a serious lack of backstories, who will care about the ending? No matter what an exciting story might be under the surface, without a proper screenplay everything is unsavory and dull. However, I have enjoyed making up crazy theories about what’s happening in the series while trying to foresee what comes next. I cannot help but have the feeling that if the production cared, we would have an astonishing mystery anime. The acclaimed voice actors save the day and make the whole watching experience far more pleasant, but we desperately need a quality twist.
This episode didn’t tire me and was quite easy to follow, especially compared to the previous ones. Though the series is poorly made and everything is rushed, I can’t deny the fact that I’m curious to see what will happen. So, did this episode answer some questions for you too?
