Do you like food porn? Supernatural beings, dragon, monsters? Do you have a slight thing for anthropomorphic characters? Is a hot chef with a mustache your dream husband? Would you like to travel to another world? If you answered yes to the first question and no to all the rest, you can still watch Restaurant to Another World. Make sure you’re not hungry.
Japanese Title: 「ビーフシチュー」「モーニング」
In a world where good food has become either a luxury, a fetish, or something to be looked at rather than eaten, anime food-porn is more relevant than ever. The nameless owner of the restaurant, who we’re going to be calling Chef, runs a western-style restaurant called Nekoya that not only serves people in the human world, but also the… ‘other one’. All sort of monsters walk through his door every Saturday to enjoy his delicious cooking through a magic door that appears around the ‘other world’. One morning, he finds a girl with horns on her head asleep on his kitchen floor and decides it would be a great idea to offer her a job. After she takes a shower, that is. A dragon-lady with enormous breasts (that was going to happen sooner or later, sorry), one of his customers and long-term fan, finds out about this and casts a spell to protect the girl, since she is now a part of the restaurant she loves.
The right kind of food fight: The warriors casually dining and arguing about food in the restaurant demonstrate what a food fight should be about: stealing each other’s food and making sure you:
If your idea of a food fight is throwing defrosted burgers and cake around, you should really sort out your priorities. The wise warriors mourn over a single piece of food falling on the floor, and so should we all.
Quality over quantity and the wisdom of dragons: Good food is always more important that lots of food. The she-dragon knows that. This is why, in spite of her massive size, she prefers to gradually dip her tongue in a tiny portion of her favorite food rather that fly around eating raw cows. She lived for thousands of years. She knows.
The Chef: The chef is hot. There are very few things in this world that would make me happier than a hot guy who cooks well. Love works through the stomach, which is why people go for dinner when out on a date. Who wants to have sex when they’re hungry? The chef knows that. And so should you.
Eating sex sounds: Did you feel tingly or maybe uncomfortable when listening to the she-dragon’s gentle moaning as she was savoring her beef stew? That’s right. Food is as good as sex. On many occasions, it’s better, and paying for it is not hurting anyone. DOUBLE WIN!
Sharing is caring: The Chef knows that also. Even though he eats with his hat on. Food tastes better when shared with others. It is the number one principal when cooking; cooking with love, to nourish and please the people around you. Lonely food is never as good as shared food.
Overseas food in Japan: From pastry and cakes to pasta, curries and burgers, western food in Japan is a thing. Hence the comment about the choice of Japanese dishes in the beginning of the episode.
This door: Looks familiar? Here’s a clue: Hayao Miyazaki.
I guess that how much you enjoy this anime depends on how much you like food. And, once more, we’re not talking stuffing-your-face food. It’s about delicate textures, aromas and colors, balanced flavors and pleasing sophisticated palates. I’m hungry.
