I thought we were finally gonna see lots of actual magic training on Radiant this week, but it’s actually just more mayhem with a side of friendship. We’re also introduced to new characters, or should I say a new character and a puppet?
Japanese Original Episode Title: 友情の雫 -Melie-
To learn about Radiant’s location and its secrets, Yaga told Seth that he must first become stronger! How exactly will he do that, though, if the only spell he knows is Titan Punch? Seth enlisted the help of Melie, but her usual personality only knows how to use defensive spells! And so they turned to Doc for more help, but he was busy trying to impress a certain lady.
Kettle Coffee: Given that this business was located in a town where every step you make gets you into more and more debt, I didn’t expect that Miss Melba would just treat the trio to a delicious meal! Guess that just shows how kind she is. Doc has good taste, even if she has bad taste in tea! It’s just unfortunate that she’s overly protected by her puppet… dad. Seeing him move actually surprised me! It didn’t seem like Miss Melba was controlling him at all! I wonder if her dad’s a sorcerer too, and becoming a puppet was his curse.
Training mayhem: Normal Melie cheering him on, Doc teaching him the technical side of casting magic, and crazy Melie forcing him to put his learning into action – Seth is once again surrounded by such lovely friends, and that makes me happy! The reason crazy Melie even appeared in the first place was because she got so stressed that Seth couldn’t learn magic! It goes to show she cares a lot for him, right? And it’s the same with Seth because he successfully cast Meteor Drops in order to save Melie! Though, that part was kind of a fluke since the problem was actually with his gloves! They didn’t really need to go through all that trouble (and all that new debt). Well, at least it leveled up his friendship with Melie! I don’t think I can say the same for Doc though, given all the added stress he got.
Seth’s hands: Is it because Seth can use magic bare-handed unlike normal sorcerers that when he has a magic tool, it prevents him from using magic? I wonder if Alma knew about this beforehand. I find it unlikely though. She wouldn’t have sent him off alone without telling him something this crucial to his survival, right? Plus, imagine how powerful he would be right now if he got to learn all kinds of spells before without his gloves! But at least now he knows one new magic, and Yaga has finally agreed to teach him!
New info on Radiant: Aha! So Radiant truly exists! However, because of how dangerous a place it is, it’s been passed down as a rumor and a fairytale. Now the question is how exactly will Seth be able to destroy that place if even the most renowned sorcerers couldn’t survive it? (Maybe with the power of being the protagonist? Hahaha!)
Poster girl: When someone is considered a poster girl/boy, they’re seen as the representation or the perfect example of an activity or characteristic. So when Miss Melba is said to be the poster girl of Kettle Coffee, she’s the best representative of their café!
Ventriloquy or puppeteering? Ventriloquy is the art of speaking in a way that it seems your voice is coming from the puppet or dummy. This doesn’t seem to be the case with Miss Melba and her papa. Meanwhile, puppeteering is the art of manipulating puppets, which also doesn’t seem to be what Miss Melba is doing since her papa looks like he acts on his own!
Teleporting Melie: In one scene she’s here. In the next, she’s there. Where is she really?
I was not really sure what to feel after watching this episode the first time, and that somewhat disappointed me given how fun last week’s was. This wasn’t boring at all, but it felt… meh? I only managed to appreciate it better after watching it the second time. Maybe because the way the events were presented made the episode flat in my opinion. It was nice seeing Seth getting along better with Melie, but I felt like there could have been more of the training part, too.
Now that Yaga accepted Seth as his pupil, will we finally see some training? The preview didn’t mention anything about it, but I don’t want to be misled by just basing on it, so I’ll just let myself be surprised. What’s sure, though, is that Doc’s gonna have another bad time. Hang in there, Doc!
