What the frak happened in this episode? I thought we had 6 more episodes in this series before the main antagonist was to be defeated. Unless the Director is NOT the main antagonist. The plot thickens.
Japanese Title: パラディンブレイク・2
Plot
Soya’s fight with grandpa was as short as a western showdown in the middle of the town. They both drew their pistols and only one was going to get out of it unscathed. Unsurprisingly, it was Soya that won the duel and got grandpa’s little bottle of psychic power. In a move I was not expecting, Yousuke gave his own bottle without a fight, making the battle against the Paladins end prematurely. It’s only Episode 6, and Soya has all the bottles. Yet, his revenge was far from complete. His main quest was to get rid of the dragon that destroyed his homeworld.
The Director had to first end his fight with the dog mecha of Generalissimo and Kogane. The dragon, even before his actual dragon transformation, proved to be too strong for them. Dog and Cat made a deal to send the dragon their way so they can deal with him. I wonder why the Cat is that much stronger than the Dog, but I guess we can’t have an explanation for everything that happens in an anime series. After a battle of ethics between the two, where Dog insists they are not invaders and Takashi laughs him off, Dog uses one of the most ridiculous shields I have ever seen to transport Takashi closer to Cat. In the meanwhile, we learned more about the dragon and how he destroyed Sirius without authorization. We also learn that THAT dragon was sealed away and that Takashi is either its reincarnation or something similar.
What did happen though and was unexpected is that after Cat won the fight against the dragon, all that father talk and platitude sharing between the two had a tragic end. For the first time in the series, we had a death, that of Takashi. Though, to be fair, it was a weird death since he was turned into dust. Maybe, because he was an alien? Probably, but who knows. Maybe we’ll learn something about it in the second half of the series.
Did I mention that we still have 6 episodes?
Episode Highlights
Generalissimo: So, the dog can talk. It’s amazing how he just switched code from barking to Japanese to be able to communicate his thoughts without having Kogane translating everything.
Meat: I need to know. Really, I need to know what’s the deal with Soya and the meat. Maybe it has something to do with Sirius.
Nebula: The Nebula race is full of animals, as it seems. Many of them wore hoods, but their noses and animal ears were distinctive enough. Where are they from? Why do they look like animals?
Jamming: Sometimes, it comes in handy to have a portable jammer in your hands, like Ginko does. You never know when the press is around.
Themes & Trivia
Keravnos: As you probably know, the boss of the Olympian Gods, Zeus or Jupiter, has a distinct weapon of choice, and that weapon is the lightning bolt. The Greek word for lightning is ‘keravnos.’
Comments
I’m wondering how the second half is going to play out. Soya has already beaten all the paladins and their leader and he has their little boxes of power, for which we know but little. He has defeated the dragon and he exclaimed to his brother that ‘It’s over.’ The dog made a deal with the cat that we don’t know of and it seems like the only conflict left is between the two. Since the next episode is called ‘Sirius’, we are probably going to have a flashback to when Sirius was invaded.
The End?
Maybe now we can finally learn what happened in Sirius and who that dragon really was? How did Soya’s brother protect their town? Who will be the new antagonist?
