If you were waiting for an awesome mecha battle, then this episode made your wish come true. For a mecha anime, Planet With was unexceptional in its robot battles. Episode 10 made up for that.
Japanese Title: カレルレンとラシャヴェラク
At last, a proper battle in Planet With. The episode was one big fight sequence where we got to see all proper transformations and Doping Modes of both CAT and DOG, known to their friends as Rashaverak and Karellen (Read in Themes & Trivia about these names -they are not made up – and the apparent inspiration for the plot), and we got to see their similar weapons and fighting styles. What was mainly a friendly match (I don’t think DOG ever really believed he had a chance of succeeding) resulted in an obvious victory for Soya and his group and a pact between him and the Paladins. When the time comes, they will all band together to find the big nasty dragon that is hiding in the dark side of the moon.
A battle in a week: Well, it only took an opening sequence for the week to be over.
Bromance: CAT and DOG are really the best of friends, something like Goku and Vegeta. The way they treat each other is indicative of a deeper connection that they have. A sort of friendship that has seen a lot and that is characterized by respect and friendly rivalry. Well, sealing of the Earth is more than a friendly dispute and that’s why we had the clash between the two.
Rock Battle: Electric Guitars are THE instrument to use during intense robot battles. This was definitely the most rock battle of the series so far.
Safety Net: When you come crushing down from a space battle, it is good to have a huge spaceship with hands to catch you falling like you are a baseball ball. Handy feature.
Mega-Giga-Tera: It seems that the cat hammer does get an upgrade when the mecha gets bigger in power and size. It also seems that it’s power is similar to digital storage units.
Doping Mode: Double doping mode? Hell yeah. And we finally found out all the different forms of DOG, which are not very different from CAT’s. They both had similar weapons, albeit in different forms.
Grandpa’s Sword: Well, it was his last attack and thus he deserved to have a huge-ass sword. In the end, he made the right choice for the good of humanity and helped Soya instead of extracting revenge. If you ask me, I had no doubt. I mean, this IS a super robot anime of some sorts. Friendship, love, etc. You know the drill.
Rashaverak and Karellen: Satoshi Mizukami must be a fan of Arthur C. Clarke since Planet With has indirectly borrowed the plot and directly borrowed the name of the Overlords from the book Childhood’s End. The story follows the peaceful alien invasion of Earth by mysterious Overlords, whose arrival begins decades of apparent utopia under indirect alien rule, at the cost of human identity and culture. Guess what the names of two of the Overlords are.
After seeing Soya all grown up, I felt like this show could have done good with a few more episodes. I felt like the first time I saw Goku all grown up and ready to go on more adventures. Of course, Dragon Ball went on to TOO MANY adventures, but Soya could use half a season more. I can’t wait to see what happened to the rest of the characters in the last 5 years and how they prepared for the upcoming battle.
And ready to finish the anime in two episodes. There is one last battle to witness and it’s going to be majestic. They are, after all, going after a huge space dragon!
