Apparently, Overlord has been all about world domination so far, and even Ainz didn’t even know about it. In this episode, we get to see what is happening in Carne Village and got introduced to all the goblin bros.
Japanese Original Episode Title: カルネ村再び
Ainz makes Demiurge explain everything that has been happening so far as well as what is going to follow in order to make even himself understand because even though he is Lord Ainz he has no clue about the guardians’ motives. He ends up knowing that seemingly he is doing all this for world domination and he decides to go for it. Meanwhile in Carne Village, we see Enri and Nphirea along with the goblins that are protecting the village living their everyday lives. Nphirea makes some sort of amazing healing potion and can’t wait to test it out in order to show Lord Ainz. Enri and her sister run out of herbs that are grown in a special part of the forest and Nphirea along with some of the goblins decide to go all together so they can protect her. As they are looking for the herbs they stumble across a young goblin from another clan that is being hunted down by a beast and try to save him. After they heal him he tells them that The Giant of the East and the Demon Snake of the West have allied together.
Ainz’ reaction: The monologues at the beginning and the pace of that dialogue with Demiurge was absolutely brilliant. I never expected Ainz to show that kind of face in front of the guardians. I love how he always tries to play it cool and goes along with all the shit happening around him.
The goblin bros: Seriously, Overlord has a great way of making really unattractive characters appealing and this is kind of worrisome. We had the lizardmen in the previous season and now we have the goblins that are flexing and posing in order to showcase to Nphirea how he can show off to Enri. I laughed so much when they were eating and the guy with the extra meat in his soup said that Enri had a thing for him.
Nphirea the charmer: He is so cute, trying to listen to his goblin bro and being all smart and flirty. That smirk he was doing and when he was saying the sound effect *sparkle* out loud was so funny. And little does he know that he doesn’t really have to appeal to Enri, because she probably has the hots for him already.
The red-headed girl: That girl that was doing the arching lesson with the goblins, I was sure that we have seen her before, but I didn’t remember her at all. She is Brita back from Season 1, the one who asked Momon to refund her lost potion and later was attacked by Shalltear.
Barghest: The beast that attacked the young goblin was called a barghest. In Northern English folklore, the Barghest or Barguest is a mythical monstrous black dog with large teeth and claws. ‘Ghost’ in Northern England was pronounced “guest,” and the origin is thought to be of the combination burh-ghest, ‘town-ghost.’ Others explain it as German Berg-geist, ‘mountain demon’ or Bär-geist, ‘bear-demon’ and Bier-Geist, the ‘spirit of the funeral bier.’
Honestly, as the plot moves forward, I am starting to get some Game of Thrones vibes from Overlord. The Giant of the East, The Demon Snake of the West, weird names of powerful people that allied together, politics and conspiracies everywhere. Do you see the resemblance as well?
Things have taken such a weird turn. At the first season we knew that most of the things that were happening and that the monsters that were appearing had something to do with Nazarick and their plans, but now with all the new characters and antagonists popping out we really have no idea what is going on and I don’t know about you but I feel as lost as Ainz in this episode.
Not only world domination but creating the nation of Nazarick. Yes, let’s start a country, this looks like fun. The humor in this season so far is off the roof and I love it, really hoping to carry on the same pace but please let’s not repeat the same tragedy as in season two with the lizardmen, not more than three episodes with the whole goblin bros arc.
Don’t forget that MT is bringing you next episode’s preview each week!
