This episode was hilarious. To be honest, I didn’t expect to see lizards ‘in action’ or SHalltear to be used as a chair, but god damn it, it made me laugh so much. Also, Cocytus was so bad-ass in his fighting scene.
Japanese Original Episode Title: 氷結の武神
Ainz and his crew are gathering to discuss their actions and see what the lizardmen are doing to prepare for their battle. Shalltear finally receives her punishment from AInz, and Cocytus is heading to battle. The fight between the elite lizardmen and Cocytus begins and they are crushed by his insane powers and abilities that he didn’t even put to use because his opponents were very weak for him. After winning the battle, Cocytus takes Crush to see Ainz who tries to mess up with her head telling her that she should be in charge of the lizardmen and make sure that no one is going to betray him. She promises to fulfill her request and Ainz decides to bring Zaryusu back to life.
From Shalltear to Shallchair: Or even maybe Shallthrone? The scene where Ainz is analyzing the throne in his head and decides to make Shalltear’s punishment be using her as a chair made me giggle. The best thing was that since Shalltear is so kinky, she seemed to enjoy this so much, so it didn’t look like a punishment at all. I have to say though that her creator, Peroronchino, has some questionable fetishes.
The lizard ‘ero’ scene: The moment Ainz bring out the mirror and peeks at what the lizard people are doing, I said to myself: ‘Can you imagine if he sees Shasha and Crush having sex? Nah, no way.’ And then the next thing we see is lizards going at it. I think I shared the same expression with Ainz on that one, not because it was unexpected but because they actually showed them having sex. They even made them moan at the end. I was like: WHAT THE HELL AM I WATCHING?!
Cocytus has swag: He even got all dressed up with fancy equipment to go and beat the lizardmen when it wasn’t even needed. I liked how he had honorable warrior principles and attitude. His whole character reminds me of a faithful old-school samurai.
After the horror of seeing lizard sex in this episode, I decided to actually read about lizard reproduction and learned some interesting facts. In most lizards, the eggs have leathery shells to allow for the exchange of water, although different species have calcified shells to retain water. Parental care is uncommon and the female usually abandons the eggs after laying them. The female uses respiratory water loss to maintain the humidity of the eggs which facilitates embryonic development. Sex determination in lizards can be temperature-dependent, at least when it comes to eggs, The temperature of the microenvironment can determine the sex of the hatched young; low-temperature incubation produces more females while higher temperatures produce more males.
I really liked the fight between Cocytus and the lizardmen. Although, I have to say that I don’t remember Overlord being so violent in the first season. In this fight, Cocytus literally chopped them into half, especially that lizard Chief that looks like he had a stroke. There was a lot of blood in general. On another note, in my previous review I mentioned that in the opening scene we see Demiurge and Ainz fighting each other and that probably we will have another Shalltear-like incident in this season, but seeing the opening again I noticed that Ainz is wearing his armor. So probably this might be some kind of show that they might do in order to get someone’s attention or even make Ainz look even more awesome. Hmm, the plot thickens!
I wonder if this kind of scene would be censored in Japanese television. I highly doubt it since they definitely have Discovery channel or something similar to that where all animals go at it all the time. In any case, I can’t believe that Madhouse included a scene like that, just to shock the viewers and make us laugh. Kudos to you guys, I applaud you.
