Things are starting to boil up in the second episode of One Punch Man… and to everyone’s delight, I’m sure, Speed-o-Sound Sonic’s butt is back for the sequel. Are we even ready for this?
The episode begins with the governmental conventions of villains, where the government official Sich is trying to convince them to cooperate against the upcoming threat that was prophesied. While things are starting to get a little rowdy, one of the villains starts talking a bit too arrogantly, explaining that he is so powerful he doesn’t even concern himself a human criminal anymore, but rather a monster. As the heroes start fighting against him and the villains are cheering for him, he announces he is planning to kill everybody with his monstrous power, and so he does… everyone dies except for Sich.
In the meantime, Speed-o-Sound Sonic approaches Saitama’s whereabouts, intending to fight against him with the new technique that he developed. Instead of Saitama, Genos comes to the door, and takes up Sonic’s challenge instead of his master. While he’s away, Team Fubuki, a minor criminal faction within the B Class of heroes led by a woman called Hellish Blizzard, finds out Saitama’s address and rings his doorbell. They try to intimidate Saitama into joining them, and naturally, he seems uninterested. Blizzard’s goons attack him first, then she has a go at him too; before the battle comes to an end, Genos and Sonic show up and almost blow up everyone. Saitama has a tête-à-tête against Sonic, Sonic get humiliated, what else…
Oh yes, the government has a convention, and they choose to ignore the upcoming threat despite Sich’s warning.
And his name is: Garou is probably the main villain for this season. I mean, his face is in the poster. Following a long tradition in One Punch Man, he really looks like he came out of a Dragon Ball Z episode. At this point, we don’t know much about him, apart from the fact that he is strong beyond regular villain levels. And that he thinks he is a monster. And that he uses a lot of hairspray.
Genos again: Let’s all sit back and take a moment to appreciate that Genos is washing Saitama’s dishes in a pink apron while Saitama complains about not having a fan club. Genos has a fan club. I mean I am not surprised. I suppose there must be a lot of people interested in cyborg erotica out there.
Team Fubuki: My favorite bit in this episode is the guy attacking Saitama with the eyelash curlers. I mean, thinking this is a shonen anime and therefore it probably has an audience that is predominantly male, I wonder how many of the viewers actually realized what it was that this guy was holding. Also, Hellish Blizzard is Terrible Tornado’s sister? I genuinely feel sorry for her now. No wonder she grew up to be so insecure.
Amai mask: Have we seen this guy before? If anyone has a name like this, I suppose they’re kind of expected to have a fan club.
I started rewatching the first season and I realized I had forgotten that Saitama had a personality. He does come off as bland but in fact he can deliver some sass when he puts his heart in it… I can’t wait for the next episode.
