What are those two doing in Episode 2 of NTR: Netsuzou Trap? Hotaru is in a very peculiar relationship that involves a bit of a power play between the two. Yuma is having a very sweet time with your typical too-good-to-be-true guy who is considerate of his girlfriend’s friend. Of course, he doesn’t know that said friend is trying to rape his girlfriend but what would be the fun if he knew? Still, are those two…
Japanese Title: あの二人ってさ…
Hotaru’s homosexual feelings for Yuma are rooted deep in the days of childhood. Yuma protected Hotaru from bullying and that made Hotaru develop a kind of dependence on her.
I’ll always protect you
I’m starting to believe that Hotaru is just as confused as Yuma, albeit in a different way. Yuma hadn’t thought of her homosexual tendency until Hotaru hit on her. Hotaru, on the other hand, is already aware of her preference. Her offensive stance is the only hint we need and her insistence that everything she does ‘is just a joke’ is only a smoke screen to hide her true intentions. Of course it’s not a joke, and I still don’t understand how people in similar situation buy the lie so easily.
Unless we are proven wrong, Takeda is the good guy who knows nothing. He is so in love with Yuma that he places her friend’s needs in front of his. He decided to miss a chance to spend some time alone with Yuma in favor of going on a double date to the amusement park because Hotaru (willingly?) expressed her concern that now that Yuma’s relationship is going well she won’t have any need for her. Poor Takeda-kun. At least you got your second romantic kiss in the Ferris wheel.
The other couple in the Ferris wheel is not as romantic as Yuma and Takeda. Fujiwara tries to make out with Hotaru using force. The way Hotaru clutches her skirt afterwards is indicative of a certain fear. Since she has toyed with guys before, I am inclined to guess that since she is discovering her homosexuality by playing with her best friend, she is annoyed at Fujiwara for calling her out for what she is: a tease. Of course, that doesn’t change the fact that Fujiwara seems like the abusive type. He is harsh and clearly dominant in this relationship. And he is also not stupid because he notices something different in his girlfriend’s behavior.
Are those two…
End Card: A cute illustration of Yuma and Hotaru in their elementary school uniforms, drawn by Hina Shirogane.
Amusement Park: I like amusement parks. They are full of lights and people laughing and sugary sweets that are probably too bad for you but nobody really cares. Some of them have those arcade corners where you can still find old-school cabinets or the occasional DDR game. It’s a place where I can enjoy myself, even alone. It’s also a common trope in anime with the protagonists and their friends visiting at least one in a season (especially if it’s a romance, slice-of-life, school series).
Themes & Trivia
Manga: I’ve talked to a couple of yuri experts and it seems that the manga doesn’t have a lot of chapters yet. Each anime episode is covering one chapter of the manga and by the time it finished its run it will probably be up to speed with it. They also confirmed that the anime is following the events of the manga and it’s nearly identical down to the lines.
NTR: Netsuzou Trap is not nearly as dark as Kuzu no Honkaibut it is dark enough to spend an entire episode on building the characters and not peeking under skirts and inside shirts. A few teasers were all we got in this episode but the things we learned about the three relationships were far more important than any boob flash. After all, they were both practically naked in the opening sequence.
It was just a joke…
Of course it was, Hotaru. Of course it was. Your trembling hand was telling a different story and Yuma was at least perceptive enough to get a hint. I wonder how abusive Fujiwara gets to Hotaru. Because if he is laying a hand on her, I will send Takeda and… and… Oh, he’ll find something.
