We’re back with another super cute episode of My Roommate is a Cat! Prepare your heart for some serious feels and more than a few emotional moments from Subaru and his feisty feline companion. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy Episode 8, ‘Because You’re Here’.
Plot
Subaru dreams about his past and his relationship with the enthusiastic Hiroto. Unbeknownst to him, a surprise illness puts him out of commission. It’s up to Haru, Kawase, and Hiroto to make sure Subaru gets better soon.
Episode Highlights
Back in the day: This week we were treated to yet another flashback courtesy of Subaru. In this one we see the beginnings of his friendship with Hiroto and the events surrounding the creation of his first book. It was nice to finally get some context for their relationship, since the pair are about as different as oil and water.
Subaru-centric episode: Usually each episode is split fairly evenly between Subaru and Haru’s perspectives. In this week’s episode Subaru was given much more screen time than his feline companion. It’s a welcome change, since I haven’t been as emotionally invested in Subaru and his storylines in the past.
Comments
I really liked this week’s episode much more than any of the other previous ones. Maybe it was the focus on developing Subaru and his relationship with Hiroto or maybe it was the fact that the episode didn’t revolve solely around Haru. Whatever the reason, I really liked seeing how Subaru and Hiroto became friends. Hiroto has been a recurring character in the series, but prior to this point there hasn’t been much in the way of character development for him, other than the fact that he is a foil to Subaru. I was starting to worry that all the other characters (other than Haru and Subaru that is) were little more than one off-trope characters there to just pad each episode’s runtime. Thankfully, that is not the case, and you know what, the series is better for it. In fleshing out Hiroto and his relationship with Subaru, the writers help give Subaru more depth. He isn’t just some taciturn shut-in. He does have relationships with other people, albeit very few of them, but they are there. Now, if we could just get some more time with Kawase and the cute pet shop clerk, I’d be a happy camper indeed.
Refreshing Rendezvous
Yet another laid back episode from our favorite dynamic duo, equal parts heartwarming and relaxing, My Roommate is a Cat is here to give some serious feels. Episode 8, Because You’re Here offers up some great character development for Subaru while also giving some great background on some side characters.
