We’re back to the ‘academia’ part of My Hero Academia, specifically about teenagers being teenagers! I had so much fun watching this episode. Given all the students went through the past few days, seeing them being silly, having a lot of laughs and becoming closer than ever was incredibly satisfying!
Japanese Original Episode Title: 入れ寮
All 20 students of Class 1-A were safely allowed to stay in the dorms, which meant being together 24/7 from now on! And while some perverts by the name of Mineta were having lewd fantasies with that fact, the rest thought of it as a chance to get along better! Or maybe even a chance to check out how their classmates designed their rooms by having a contest to see who has the best aesthetic!
Back on track: I forgot that the reason for the summer camp was to prepare the students to get their provisional licenses! At least now they’ll be able to focus on training better, thanks to the dorms. However, as the principal said, it wasn’t only because of the students’ safety that the dorm system was put in place, but also so they can secretly investigate who the traitor, aka the source of the leaked location of the camp is! I wonder who it is among the teachers or even the students… I don’t want to start suspecting anyone!
Guilt: Aizawa may normally seem like a lazy teacher, but as we’ve seen in the past few episodes, he really takes his teaching job seriously. This time, he took it to another level by being terribly stern with his students. Imagine if All Might didn’t retire: there’d only be three people left in Class A! And while the Symbol of Peace’s retirement wasn’t a great thing at all, at least the ones who were almost expelled still have a chance to make things right. Kind of like how Bakugo evened things out between him and Kirishima by paying him back for the night-vision goggles (which, as I mentioned in my past review, would’ve cost a fortune)! I really like how this gesture further proved that Kacchan thinks of Kirishima as a friend, as he didn’t want his bro looking glum and feeling guilty. It’s also amazing how, despite being a prideful person, it seems he used Kaminari as a distraction, not only to lighten up the mood but also so he could discreetly give his bro the money. Kacchan is such a good boy!
Room King Contest: U.A.’s funding must really be high to have a building for each class, and an aircon for each room! Imagine the electric bill… I found it nice that the school allowed the students to bring in their things to make them feel at home! That’s how you prioritize the well-being of your students! Thanks to that, we got to see how their personalities shine through their rooms! My favorite room among the boys is Todoroki’s, and I’m not being biased! Imagine changing the walls and the floors in one day! He indeed worked really hard, and indeed made himself feel at home. On the other hand, Yaoyorozu’s room is my aesthetic among the girls, despite the cramped space. It’s like a princess’ room! I also really like Hagakure’s because it’s so girly and full of stuffed toys! It’s too bad we didn’t get to see Tsuyu’s and Bakugo’s rooms. I hope we get a chance to see those sometime in the future! (Huh? Mineta’s room? I bet that lowlife only has porn there, so I don’t even want to bother seeing it.)
The winner is…: Don’t you think it’s nice that someone who hasn’t gotten a chance to be in the spotlight yet won the contest? Even if it was because of the cake. I actually didn’t think Sato would win despite having unconsciously bribed the girls since everyone seemed impressed with Todoroki’s room, but now I realize that the girls’ focus was immediately turned to the cake he baked when he offered them some! I mean, in general, who doesn’t like a guy who can cook, right?
Making things right: Tsuyu is a gift!! She’s the most mature in Class A, in my opinion, that’s why it was worrying yet refreshing to see her cry. Actually, just by wanting to clear the air by being honest with her classmates was another proof of her maturity. I’m not saying that the others who opted to host some good fun instead were immature; it’s still actually a brave thing to do! However, I think the bravest people confront their feelings AND do something to correct the negative ones. Thanks to her honesty, it was made even clearer to the rescue team members that they shouldn’t act so rashly ever again because their class really cares for each other. (Side note: Due to her small tears and meek crying, Tsuyu reminded me of a forest critter for some reason!)
Yakiniku: In general, this Japanese term refers to any kind of grilled meat dish. Usually, bite-sized meat is cooked, along with some vegetables. Just typing this down is already making me drool!
Washitsu: Means traditional Japanese style room in English. These rooms are still currently widespread in Japan, especially in Japanese style inns (ryokan), bed & breakfasts (minshuku), or temple lodgings, where tourists can spend the night. Since these rooms include tatami mats as flooring, they’re also known as tatami rooms.
I was watching this with my brother and he said the whole dorm thing reminded him of Danganronpa, and I actually agree! I can’t help but remember Gakuen Alice even more now, too. Anyway, I loved this whole episode a lot! My only complaints are probably the unnecessary fanservice done to the girls at some points, and Mineta’s overly pervy attitude. He really took it to the next level this time. Seriously, why is he a character in this show full of amazing characters? I don’t find him funny at all.
It’s back to business in the next episode, and so the students have to get in gear and think up of fantastic hero moves! I wonder how Deku will keep up now that he can’t use his arms due to the risk of damaging them permanently.
Well then, do let us know what you thought of this episode! Maybe you can even share some things that you think the kids can do together now that they’re all living under one roof. And of course, the summer season has officially started, so better check out the shows we’ll be reviewing!
