Things quickly went south in the previous episode of My Hero Academia, but the fledgling heroes didn’t give in to the despair and wallow in their regrets. Still, they are just that: young aspiring heroes, some of them injured to boot! That’s why, to me, this episode answers the question ‘How far are you willing to go to save someone?’ may it be from the hands of villains, or from their own recklessness.
Japanese Original Episode Title
Kirishima and Todoroki’s plan to rescue Bakugo sparked dissension in their class, as most of them were against the whole idea. However, the idea of still being able to reach his childhood friend allowed Midoriya to step up and go with them, despite his very serious injuries. This made Iida very angry, not only because it was dangerous, but because Todoroki and Midoriya were the same people who tried to talk sense into him when he wanted to get revenge on Stain! They almost got punished together for their unpermitted operation back then, too. Yet now, they were going to make the same mistake.
Friends for friends: I’m really so happy with Class A’s relationship, especially during this troubling time they’re facing. They cared for each other so much that they honestly expressed their thoughts that trying to save Bakugo is dangerous, so they tried to stop the others who wanted to go. I especially liked Tsuyu’s point: having their own rescue mission means breaking the rules, which makes them no different from a villain. Yet at the same time, Iida (Class A’s president) and Yaomomo (the vice-president) also cared for Midoriya, Todoroki, and Kirishima so much that they decided to go with them to be their voice of reason when things go haywire! Especially Iida! I teared up when he was really frustrated with his two friends, and even punched some sense into Deku! You could really sense that was a punch from a very concerned friend! Even so, though he was totally against the idea, he still accompanied them in their covert mission.
Midoriya’s condition: Guess heroism really has a price to pay, huh? But its consequences have come too soon for Deku! How will he be able to properly use the treasured quirk All Might passed on to him if he’ll always be conscious to not damage his arms to the point of no return? He really needs to figure out a way for his body to support his super powerful quirk, or else he’ll always only be able to save one person and fail on the next, or worse! I also feel incredibly bad for his mom. She was already terribly worried when Shigaraki came to meet her son at the end of the previous season. What more now that her son was hurt badly, and other students were in critical condition? I can totally understand why she was starting to question if her son has to continue at U.A., which was looking to be a dangerous institution at the moment. On a side note, I thought the doctor was pretty apathetic while he was telling Deku the situation, but then he gave Kota’s letter to cheer him up! I hope that his fragile situation won’t discourage him from continuing to be a hero!
Disguise: Yaoyorozu’s excitement over buying at a discount store was adorable and amusing!! Personally speaking, who wouldn’t take advantage of buying good costumes for cheap prices, more so when you’re rich, right? It was also kind of an excuse to dress up! I wonder if they picked out their own disguises, because the way they acted in character were all entertaining to watch! I especially laughed at Deku and Iida! If they weren’t about to head into the battlefield that would’ve made for a fun costume party, right?
Adults on the move: Who else thought that montage when the pro heroes were being gathered looked so badass? You could truly sense the gravity of the situation because the best of the best were already the ones getting involved. If the villains still win even with these pros at the helm, society is really done for. They already started by ruining U.A.’s image, too.
Bakugo’s answer: Little Kacchan was super-duper cute!! (What happened, and where did he go?) We already know that he looked up to All Might a lot as well, just like Deku, but what inspired him was the fact that, no matter how hard it is, the Number 1 Hero always won and defeated bad guys! Now I kinda get why he always wants to win and never lose! It somehow ended up becoming pride though, but still, his admiration of the Symbol of Peace helped him stand his ground and not accept Shigaraki’s offer to let him join. Actually, if it weren’t for that hand on Shigaraki’s face, Bakugo would’ve gotten a clean hit!
Donki Oote: This is a parody of Don Quijote, a store is quite famous in Japan with over 160 branches nationwide and a few ones in some parts of the world! Donki sells a variety of things, from food to souvenirs and clothing, you name it! It’s a really cheap discount store that’s open until late into the night, some even for 24 hours!
I absolutely loved how most of the scenes were directed (just like always)! Even though there were a lot of things happening, not once did they feel cluttered, and even the transition of emotions were smoothly done! Personally speaking, I think the aspect that helped make the scenes more amazing this time around were the voice acting! The emotions heightened 10 levels higher because of them, especially that scene with Iida outside the hospital!
The preview mentioned that Midoriya and the others found a…Nomu Factory? What in the world? The next episode’s title is even named after All Might’s arch nemesis! Just imagining what awaits us, it’s so thrilling!
