The second cour of My Hero Academia has finally arrived after a week’s break, and I say we’re off to a great start! It was a great mix of action and entertainment. It also revealed a few information that moved the plot forward! Everyone’s off learning new things after all, so I guess it’s just appropriate that we are too!
Japanese Original Episode Title: 怪奇! グラントリノ現る
No wonder the students all worked hard to get their names out during the sports festival. It’s imperative that their internships would prove fruitful! The heroes and their work will give them some very important learning experiences that will shape how they grow, quite different from just sitting around in a classroom! As for Deku, though, he finally met All Might’s teacher, but he may be a little too old to teach him anything! Or is he?
Gran Torino: Never let age, height, and looks fool you, just like how Deku was by Gran Torino’s appearance! I guess all of us had the same reaction as him, though! But when the veteran hero suddenly talked with a low and serious voice, you knew All Might wasn’t scared of his teacher for nothing! Plus, Gran Torino knew just from watching Deku and observing his movements during the sports festival what he needed to improve on, and just what exactly the fledgling hero was thinking. He let him figure things out for himself too! What an amazing teacher! I just wonder though, he’s already retired; he should just be relaxing, leaving the training to the next generation! If he only taught Toshinori for the sake of his close friend, the seventh user of One for All, then wouldn’t have his job been over the moment All Might passed down his power? Guess he didn’t want to see his friend’s power be used in a mediocre way and leave it at that? If that’s the case, then he’s more than amazing!
Class 1-A’s internships: The heroes seemed quite determined to teach their interns lots of things during their time with them, which is a great thing! Internship is all about learning! And it was very interesting to see where most of them landed. Bakugo’s time with Best Jeanist is the one I’m most excited of because the No. 4 Pro Hero was having none of his arrogance, even saying that he’ll turn Kacchan into an exemplary hero! How will that turn out? Then there’s Todoroki who, despite hating his dad, still went to intern with him! What a twist of events! I wonder if it’s because he knows that he really can learn many things from the No. 2 hero. Endeavor looked so proud that it just looked like it was ‘Bring your son to work Day’ to me! I couldn’t help but laugh! Another thing I laughed at was Kirishima and Tetsutetsu ending up in the same agency! It’s like they’re really twins now! Even their hero costumes looked similar. Last, oh no! Iida did just accept the offer at Hosu just to get revenge at Stain! Don’t do it!
Meeting with Stain: Stain is so weird. You’d think he will team up with Shigaraki and join the League of Villains since, you know, they’re both crazy. But looks like there’s more to him that just frenzied murder! What’s more, looks like the person Kurogiri called ‘Master’ already knew that Stain wouldn’t like Shigaraki, but still deliberately brought him in to let his student learn something? Well, he’s got more of an idea about teaching than All Might, at least.
The taiyaki in the microwave: We really have our own ways of figuring stuff out, huh? I can’t believe Deku figured out the answer to why he was so stiff in using his quirk just from observing what happened to the taiyaki! And he looked really cool channeling his power all throughout his body! He’s been so worried about trying to catch up with everybody who already got a grasp of their quirks for 15 years, but I say the fact that he learns fairly quick is more than enough to help him out! However, we still do have to see how he fairs on the test run with Gran Torino. I believe in you, Deku!
: While its name literally translates to ‘baked sea bream’, this is all cake on the outside, and whatever filling you prefer on the inside! It’s just shaped like a fish. Commonly it’s filled with anko or red-bean paste, but you can also find different flavors stuffed in it! As it is baked and served warm, it’s the favorite treat to eat during the cold season!
Ending Sequence: I was super-duper elated to see this fantasy AU come to life, with such precious and epic scenes too! The were based on what Horikoshi drew for the Second Popularity Poll in Japan. There, Todoroki won third place, Midoriya in second, then Bakugo in first place!
As always, this show never fails to get my attention and bring me to the edge of my seat! This episode’s premise was as engaging as ever, plus the art and animation were still crisp and wonderful to look at; please never change! I’m already looking forward to everything else that will happen in this second cour, how they’ll be played out and animated! Keep holding on to your seats, ladies and gentlemen, because I bet it’s going to be a wild ride!
That preview amused me so much! Shigaraki and Deku seemed more like brothers there with their one-sided bickering! And it was so appropriate because the next episode seems to be about them! Makes you curious as to what it’ll show us, huh?
Well then, how did you like everything that happened this week? Were you as ecstatic as I was? Or did it bore you? The comments section is always open for your thoughts. Do also check our other reviews!
