The fifth episode of Maou-sama, Retry! is the funniest one so far! I know it’s hard to believe this, since the series is already hilarious, but trust me when I say that Girlish Boy has taken it to a whole new level. If you haven’t watched it yet, do yourself a favor and you won’t regret it! So, let’s take a closer look at this episode’s events.
This episode was calm and funny. Demon-Lord, Aku, and Luna reach Luna’s -almost abandoned- village and they try to renovate it. Oh, did I say ‘try’? Excuse me! I meant that only poor Kunai struggles to fix things up, to act like an adult and overhaul the damaged properties, while (bunny) girls are goofing around. I think that’s a smart move to turn this village into his base, since I’m sure he will take better care of it than Luna. Meanwhile, Yu, the mad scientist, was present during the whole progress and I can say that her personality really adds up to the series, since it’s nice to have at least one non-loli female character. She’s a breath of fresh air!
In the meantime, Luna’s oldest sister is attending an… eccentric meeting, to discuss the latest developments. Though she seems to be the only one who cares, since Killer Queen turned into an obsessed fan-girl and a creepy guy is… busy with entertaining himself.
Party Under The Table: While the Eldest Holy Maiden was talking, a middle-aged noble man was stroking his mustache. Though, his mustache might not be the only thing he was stroking, if you know what I mean…
Bunny Girls: Honestly, who would leave a village inhabited by hoppy bunny girls end up like that? Thank God that Demon-Lord is saving the day.
Girlish Boy: ‘I wish he’d fill the holes in my heart and my butt’. NEED I SAY MORE?
Themes & Trivia
Smoking: Demon-Lord is a heavy smoker, and it’s pretty common to see tough main characters in anime smoking. Japan is one of the largest tobacco markets in the world and smoking is allowed in most public places, like restaurants or bars. Thus, the risk of tobacco-related diseases is increased not only for smokers, but for passive smokers too.
Maou-sama, Retry! is getting more dirty in each episode and I can’t complain. There are killer punchlines around every 3 minutes, the kind that leaves you jaw-dropped. Even though I didn’t like this episode as much as the previous ones (except from the humor we didn’t get any action) the truth is that the banters are becoming more straightforward and adult (thanks for everything, Girlish Boy!). It’s almost irresistible and I hope to make justice to this, since it’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever watched!
‘And I want more of that white creamy stuff’
This episode was fun. It filled the holes in my heart by making me almost cry out of laughter! Did you enjoy it as much as I did? I can’t wait to read your comments here, in MANGA.TOKYO!
