The second episode of this promising series is here, and I can say one thing for sure: Maou-sama, Retry! is gonna be extremely funny and amusing! Humorous characters, Batman’s voice, adventure and spanking, make this anime an excellent summer choice. But, allow me to be more specific why.
The events of this episode follow the previous ones: Demon Lord wanders around with Aku, while he tries to come up with an idea to return in his world. Meanwhile, Aku is having the moment of her life, living the ultimate rags-to-riches experience. Expensive dresses, deluxe dinners, and super fancy hotels, are merged to transform this tortured soul into a princess. But, where all that money came from?
Well, this is a hilarious story. While our main characters were somewhere in the desert, a fancy Holy Maiden attempts to attack them, since it’s her duty to eliminate evil. Though, she happens to be a little spoiled, and ends up receiving a huge spanking session up her butt. I honestly didn’t expect that to happen, even though we have a spoil in the opening song. Long story short, I got the feeling she will end up being a good friend of Aku and Demon Lord and will somehow help them with the approaching danger…
Spanking: First of all, Holy Maiden surely isn’t as Holy as she used to be and I’m pretty sure she got traumatized but got a new fetish at the same time. Her love for her butt surely is a highlight!
Dinner and Sleepover: After Holy Moly -I mean Holy Maiden, got her money stolen, she received a ‘free’ meal and a ‘free’ room, paid by … her stolen money. Her reactions were extremely cute and she lightens up the mood.
Looks are an illusion: Demon Lord’s and Chief’s fight about who looks younger forced me to imagine me and my friends in our 40s: -‘I look younger’ – ‘HOW DARE YOU! You look at least 10 years older than me!’. I though age was mostly a girl’s problem, but it looks like fictional characters are nervous about it too.
The first thing I would like to comment about this episode is the following: Can money buy people? There was a comical scene, which partly made me sad. When Demon Lord visits an expensive boutique, everyone looks him and Aku in disgust. But, as soon as he demonstrates his money, the owner (not sure if he’s the owner but it’s not important) was willed to do anything for him, from becoming a chair to an ashtray. It made me think of all the times that money can buy kindness and respect, and I think that’s one of our society’s biggest problems. Those things should be earned, not paid.
Anyway, the second episode gave me a good time and I surely want to see what happens next. I honestly think this will be an amusing anime and I think the production is doing its best -reminder, it’s the studio’s first full length anime. The artwork could use some improvements, but maybe the quality will improve later. I love Demon Lord’s voice, though he might need to reduce smoking. I am looking forward to see more about this new video game world.
This episode was fun after all, making me wait for the next one. Did you enjoyed it as much as I did? I can’t wait to read your comments here, in MANGA.TOKYO! The anime is going to be part of our weekly anime previews!
