The tenth episode of Maou-sama, Retry! confirms that the series keeps improving and evolving and is surely gonna thrill its audience even more. The plot is becoming further alluring and absurd, whilst the characters keep unfolding their multilayer personalities. Allow me to elaborate!
This episode starts with an exciting and emotional flashback, dedicated to Luna’s childhood. Surprisingly, she wasn’t always as rich and fancy as today. On the contrary, she was penniless, having only one friend. It appears that she’s more sensitive than she wants to admit and that she hides many heartwarming traits under the surface. It’s proven that she judges people by their heart, not their financial or social status. She’s an example of a pure soul. Up to this point, I wasn’t the biggest fan of her, but now everything changed. I expect to see more about her life journey and learn how she ended up being the person she is today.
Meanwhile, back to the present, Butterfly’s time of visit has finally arrived. While she receives an all-included tour at the Bath House, she seems utterly impressed. Her positive feedback will surely help with the village’s popularity. Demon-Lord knows how to run a business… Yet, he can’t even catch a break! After all the hard work, he decides to take a bath and call it a night. However, his harem has a different idea. It’s the first time I see a middle-aged man getting harassed by SO MANY underage teens. Cheers to his self-control!
Injustice: Luna’s childhood friend was killed because of her ancestry. It’s so cruel and unfair that a helpless child was murdered cold-blooded because of some ancient prejudices and beliefs. Sadly, this keeps happening even nowadays. Immigrants and people of a different color/ culture/ religion are constantly threatened by organisations and even governments. This brutality need to come to an end, especially since it’s involving even innocent, unprotected children!
Bath House: I felt so jealous while watching the bath scenes that I was THIS close to book an appointment at the nearest spa.
Irresistible: I think that irresistible is the perfect word to describe Kunai. He’s this universe’s Don Juan and the ladies are crazy over him. I love the fact that, even though he’s powerful and determined on the one hand he looks threatened and scared when he’s outnumbered by his groupies. So cute!
This amazing episode was 50% dark and sad and 50% chill and funny. I approve that! Meanwhile, Butterfly is starting to become very likeable and I’m sure that she’ll appear often in the rest of the series. Moving on though, I was shocked to find out that the Holy Maidens aren’t blood relatives. How Luna’s resemblance to the older sister is explained though? I’m sure we’ll find out more about this (not so holy) organisation. In conclusion, this was once again a full episode which offered the right amount of drama, humor, chill, and revelation! Good job, Production.
Are you as hyped as I am for the rest of the anime? How do you think Kunai will proceed with his renovation plan? Can’t wait to read your opinion here, in MANGA.TOKYO!
