We all know what to expect in this episode. Somebody will die. It’s all been leading up to this moment since the previous one and now all we have to do is expect whose head is gonna be rolling on the floor. Are you excited? Be very excited.
Japanese Original Episode Title: ゲリライベント発生中!
So Nana and Winterprison are going to meet with the AUCG, but these guys are building a trap. We kind of know that from the previous episode because of Swim Swim creeping out behind half-closed doors. Some pointless randomness occurs, then suddenly, Calamity Mary decides to go on a killing spree. What an annoying bitch.
The episode starts with a glimpse of the past. Winterprison is chaperoning Sister Nana who is challenging Calamity Mary because of the way she conducts herself, which according to her ethics is unacceptable for a Magical Girl. Calamity Berry does not give a flying shit and starts shooting them both. Who could have guessed? Winterprison builds some walls and they run off.
Okay, so we know that Sister Nana and her sexy androgynous girlfriend are walking into a trap. Within moments, Winterprison gets stabbed in the stomach by the Peaky Angels and barely manages to save Nana by kicking her out of the building. She then smashes Yunael’s head bloody, but Swim Swim gets the chance to cut off her right arm. Winterprison dies. DAMMIT. I really liked her. Sister Nana cries on the street.
As Winterprison dies, we get a quick look on how lovely a couple she and Nana were and how she had given her her scarf as a gift. Sister Nana cries on the street. Minaele cries. Tama cries. Swim Swim is disappointed. You should probably make love, not war, ladies.
In a bland, sugarcoated scene, we find out that Ripple is happily married and an ideal housewife. She even uses her magical powers to make sure her husband-o does not forget his lunch when going to work. They even kiss, that’s just how serious this is. Apparently their relationship is blessed and socially acceptable enough to deserve a peck on the lips. She’s obviously pregnant, since during this whole time we can see nothing but her face. Told you so.
An interesting insight in Calamity Mary’s actual life shows us that she is an alcoholic housewife who beats her child. That would explain the constant booze dripping down the cleavage thing. When her husband decides to abandon her and leave with the kid, she immediately gets an offer from FAV, who seems to think Nabuka City needs a horrible Magical Bitch running around shooting people. I H-A-T-E FAV. In the following scene, in a very SailorMoon-ish fashion, we see her transforming into Calamity Mary and telling FAV she will be fulfilling his bloodthirsty wish. She runs off to kill Ripple, creates a huge mess by shooting cars and attracts every Magical Girl in the area around the mess.
Cranberry decides to battle the person who killed Winterprison.
Sailor moon… again: Calamity Mary’s transformation is so obviously referring to the all-time classic, it’s beyond explanation.
Homosexuality in Japan: Even though the lesbian couple’s relationship is presented as completely acceptable in the anime, this is not a very accurate representation of homosexuality in Japanese society. However, this was not always the case.
Amputation: You may or may not be surprised, but amputation is one of those anime fetishes you can find in excess in the more obscure parts of the internet. And no, I will not be providing any link for this, get your mind out of the gutter.
Well some of the girls died as expected. The episode was sufficiently violent and emotionally intense. I was slightly disappointed by the portrayal of Calamity Mary’s background, which I found a bit superficial. Overall, the episode set the mood for the next episode, by bringing everyone to the same place.
Probably a massive battle will take place in the next episode. Right now I have my money on Hardgore Alice, mostly because, well, she’s an undead. However, judging from the next episode’s title, a plot twist is to be expected. This should be interesting.
