Kaguya-sama Love is War just keeps getting better every week. Kaguya is more sneaky and cunning than ever before, and we saw the motherly side of Chika and the lame athletic skills of Miyuki. This episode even had some good ‘doki doki’ scenes. I mean what more can you ask for?
Japanese Original Episode Title: かぐや様はこなしたい, 白銀御行は見せつけたい, かぐや様は差されたい
Another student comes for some relationship advice to the Student Council, but this time Kaguya has to deal with it. Even though Kaguya has no experience whatsoever, she hears out the girl who seeks guidance as to how to break up with her boyfriend. After asking her a variety of questions, Love Detective Chika comes into play and makes her realize that if she is jealous about him flirting with other girls, then she is into him, a fact that hits Kaguya’s feelings hard as well. Suggesting her to find a common ‘enemy’ aka a shared interest or hobby to bring them together, the couple starts doing some charity work which saves their relationship. On the other hand, Miyuki is practicing his volleyball skills since he is unable to even hit the ball properly and doesn’t want to ridicule himself in the upcoming match. Chika happens to pass by the gym and after witnessing his terrible skills she decides to help him. After some intense practicing for more than a week, Miyuki manages to get really good at volleyball and shine through the match, which makes Chika very proud. On another day when it’s pouring down rain, Kaguya and Miyuki try to share an umbrella together but their ego and pride get in the way once more.
Here we go again: The moment that girl came in the Student Council room asking for advice I was like: ‘She is definitely the girl that the other guy asked out some episodes ago’ and apparently I was right. Also, the difference in personalities and reactions between Chika and Kaguya is just so funny. In the previous occasion Kaguya just sat outside the door eavesdropping but in this one instead, Chika busted in saying ‘I OVERHEARD’ while even running to the acting club to borrow the detective outfit. She is just hilarious. And might I add that she actually has some really scary and mature thoughts? I mean the jealousy example and putting the corrupted society as a common ‘enemy’ is pretty deep. I laughed so hard with Kaguya’s reaction when she said: ‘Did we just create antisocial deviants’?
Shirogane is not athletic: After his minor French skills I couldn’t say that I didn’t see this coming. I mean he doesn’t lack in physical ability; it’s just his coordination that is really wrong, which makes everything even funnier. Thinking that his fellow students would call him a ‘Dying Alpaca’ killed me and might I add that the animation of him falling and hitting himself in the face was outstanding, like the Chika dancing ending. Furthermore, Chika just stole the spotlight in this story. Her quote at the end when she says; ‘I raised this boy’ was absolute gold. She even put a bandage on her ribbon, how bloody cute can she be?
Chika is at the right place and right time, every time: I think that at the end of the show, if Kaguya and Miyuki don’t end up together, Kaguya is going to slaughter Chika with her perfect timing. She is harvesting some intense hate about her. Always staring at her big boobs with envy and even when Chika asked them to think of their crush flirting with another girl, she thought of Miyuki flirting with her… Kaguya please, don’t harm the best mom and Love Detective ever created. You guys are besties.
Yips: The yips is the loss of fine motor skills in athletes. The condition occurs suddenly and without apparent explanation, usually in mature athletes with years of experience. It is poorly understood and has no known treatment or therapy. Athletes affected by the yips sometimes recover their ability, which may require a change in technique. Many are forced to abandon their sport at the highest level. The yips manifest themselves as sudden movements at crucial moments, and occur most often in sports in which athletes are required to perform a single precise and well-timed action such as golf and darts.
I absolutely loved Kaguya’s voice acting in this episode. Aoi Koga is giving us such an amazing performance and her diversity in every scene is just undeniably amazing. She deserves more recognition for sure! Also, who the hell is this stalker girl?
I adore Chika’s character with all my heart. We even got a sneak peek of the other member of the student council in the end of the episode. I wonder when he will finally be introduced to us…
NEXT TIME: ‘Ishigami Yū wa Ikinobitai’, ‘Fujiwara Chika wa Tesuto-shitai’, ‘Kaguya-sama wa Kizukaretai’
