This anime is bloody genius. Honestly, I can’t stop being impressed by Kaguya-sama Love Is War every week! It’s so meta, funny, adorable, and hilarious at the same time that it will be hard to let go at the end of the season. Also, can we mention that the Chika ending was probably the best animated ending sequence I have seen in a while? Thanks.
Japanese Original Episode Title: 白銀御行はまだしてない, かぐや様は当てられたい, かぐや様は歩きたい
Having confiscated a teens magazine from a student, Chika takes a look at its content and freaks out by a poll that claims that most of the teens in Japan have had their ‘first time’ experience in high school. While Miyuki starts freaking out as well, Kaguya seems calm and collected while mentioning that she have had her ‘first time’. Both Chika and Miyuki are speechless with her statement, but it ends up that Kaguya misunderstood the whole meaning of the lewd conversation due to having being grown up in a very protected environment. The next story follows Kaguya and Miyuki while they play the ’20 questions’ game and Miyuki has to guess what is on Kaguya’s mind. The last story shows Kaguya walking to school for the first time in her life. On her way to school, she encounters a young child afraid of crossing the pedestrian lights and helps her get to her school. Lost somewhere in the city after helping the child, she thinks she would definitely be late, but as it ends up Miyuki is nearby with his bike and tells her to hop on and go to school together, which was what Kaguya wanted to gain from this experience all along.
‘This country is becoming lewd’: Really Chika? You realized that just now? When I saw her saying that, I busted out laughing. I don’t know about you Chika but for me the most bizarre, absurd, and lewd material that I have ever seen in my life originates from your country, so maybe you should have your facts checked (I loved her reaction so much).
Miyuki, the twisted monster virgin: The first story in this episode killed me. There were so many good quotes and moments in it, I couldn’t stop laughing. I don’t really know which one was better: Miyuki mentioning that the ‘Teens Love Bible’ might contain nudity with pubic hair, Chika freaking out about her country, or Miyuki’s backstory about how he has turned up to be a confident twisted virgin monster. Absolutely hilarious. Also, WHAT THE HELL was wrong with those chocolates that he received for Valentine’s Day in the past?? One contained hair and the other one exploded?? Miyuki are you sure you are popular or is someone trying to kill you?
THAT ENDING: Oh. My. God. I can’t believe how great the ending of this episode was. Chika dancing and singing about herself and the student council is probably the best thing I have seen in a while. Her voice actress did an amazing job giving out such a cute performance and the animation was just incredible. A-1 Pictures is at the top of their game with their latest titles. They deserve so much praise and recognition.
Pistil & Stamen: Great reference to explain the reproductive system… Pistil is the female reproductive part of a flower. The pistil, centrally located, typically consists of a swollen base, the ovary, which contains the potential seeds and a pollen-receptive tip, the stigma, variously shaped and often sticky. In pollination, compatible pollen grains land on the stigma and then germinate, forming a pollen tube. The pollen tube grows down through the tissue of the style to deposit sperm for the fertilization of the ovules in the ovary. Stamen, is the male reproductive part of a flower. In all but a few extant angiosperms, the stamen consists of a long slender stalk, the filament, with a two-lobed anther at the tip. The anther consists of four saclike structures that produce pollen for pollination. All the stamens of a flower are collectively called the androecium.
Henrion, Dassy & Heuschen: The Henrion, Dassy & Heuschen double-barrel revolver was a type of revolver with two stacked barrels and two concentric sets of chambers, each serving its own barrel. They were fired by a single hammer which had two firing pins. The revolvers were based on a 1910 patent held by the Belgian firm of Henrion, Dassy & Heuschen (HDH), and were made in various calibers.
This show just doesn’t take itself too seriously, and it’s absolutely wonderful to watch. It’s a funny rom-com on the surface with great characters and cleverly written stories. The random Yeti walking in the streets of Tokyo, proves it all.
Chika will become the next heroine. If she falls in love before Kaguya and Miyuki that’s it. The show is officially hers.
NEXT TIME: ‘Kaguya-sama wa Medetai’, ‘Seitokai wa Iwa setai’, ‘Kaguya-sama wa Okura setai’, ‘Shirogane Miyuki wa Hanashitai’
