That was probably the most intense fight over a shortcake ever. When you think that things can’t get more lewd in this show, Miyuki and Kaguya exchange some lip touching (literally). The spotlight in this episode was definitely on Ishigami though, with his ‘Love Master’ knowledge and brave stand up against the childish Fujiwara. Way to go, man.
Japanese Original Episode Title: かぐや様は許せない, かぐや様は許したい, 白銀御行は出かけたい
A few days after the ‘shared bed incident’, Kaguya and Miyuki are still quite heated about the whole situation, but no one really addresses the matter. Hell breaks loose when the Headmaster buys two shortcakes for the Student Council and Ishigami eats one. Miyuki and Kaguya start arguing on who should be the one eating the other cake, which ends up into a long dispute with occasional breaks whenever they realize how thoughtful they are to each other, but obviously without letting it show. Ishigami calls Fujiwara to the rescue where she comes in and stops the fight. Later on Kaguya goes to Kashiwagi for advice in making up with Miyuki, and Miyuki talks to Ishigami about it. When they both start analyzing the situation to them, they realize that they both have regrets about the whole thing and just want to make up -which they do- but letting Kaguya touch Miyuki’s lips. The next day is the final day before summer vacation and as Miyuki tries to make everyone hang out together, Fujiwara tries to ‘ruin’ their plans by acting immaturely, but Ishigami tells her off and the rest succeed in making plans to attend a summer festival.
Feelings of dissatisfaction: Honestly, that scene managed to get me SO on edge for some reason and I think the main cause for it was the fact that I thought that the shortcake might fall on the floor. The dynamic between Kaguya and Miyuki is just absolutely great, even when they fight. Seeing how they are both ‘softies’ deep inside who are just super into each other is just so sweet. When Kaguya turned her back to Miyuki to ‘scratch her nose’ and vice versa (same lame excuse but with some forehead action) so they wouldn’t show that they were touched by each other thoughtfulness, was just precious. Who would have thought that after all this they would actually TOUCH LIPS? I also have to add that the voice acting was supreme during the whole argument. The voice actors deserve so much praise.
Ishigami the Love Master: Another Love Master comes into play and this time Ishigami sounds like he got out of the ‘Mean Girls’ group. His experience with romcom manga made him realize quite fast that the ‘girl’ Miyuki was talking about had black hair, was flat chested, and probably a nympho. Well, Ishigami you almost got it right. What Miyuki said was true though: when he starts he doesn’t know when to hit the brakes. ‘I’m sure after the guy left, she rubbed–‘ what were you ABOUT TO SAY THERE Ishigami?
Aloha in Honolulu: I love Fujiwara with all my heart but in this episode she stepped out of the line, twice. She came in as the ‘Friend Police’ and ate the cake bites that they were about to feed each other… Come on Chika, get a clue! And the other one was when she tried to make everyone not attend the festival just because she decided to travel around the whole world in one summer. Chika, I love you, but you might be a spoiled little brat.
The Ouroboros: It is an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon eating its own tail. Originating in ancient Egyptian iconography, the ouroboros entered western tradition via Greek magical tradition and was adopted as a symbol in Gnosticism and Hermeticism and most notably in alchemy. The term derives from Ancient Greek: οὐροβόρος, from οὐρά (oura), ‘tail’+ βορά (bora), ‘food’ from βιβρώσκω (bibrōskō), ‘I eat’. In alchemy it is described as ‘individual self-perfection through physical transmutation and spiritual transcendence’
‘Ishigami, you were right this time.’ Finally this poor guy got some recognition from them! And they better thank him later because they owe it all to him if they will succeed into meeting up for that festival. Otherwise they would stay all alone in the heat during the whole summer, wondering why they didn’t swallow their pride.
I died with Kaguya’s face when she decided to brain fart out of the whole conversation. Can this become a meme please? It seems like the final episodes will focus on that summer festival and boy, oh boy aren’t we excited to see some more action between the two. Maybe they will even touch HANDS this time. How lecherous.
NEXT TIME: ‘Hayasaka Ai wa Tsukaritai’, ‘Fujiwara Chika wa Chō Tabetai’, ‘Shirogane Miyuki wa Deaitai’, ‘Hanabi no Oto wa Kikoenai, Zenpen’
