Horse and the Underground: I lol’d so much when our friendly giant the Horse with the super sensual voice was struggling in the underground with the ticket machines.
Chicken pecked on the Dog: We could all sense that something was wrong with that girl from the beginning but I really liked how very well executed her plan was. Playing innocent to the most simple minded out of them was very clever.
Tiger the local drunk: I love the small comical scenes that we got in this episode. Tiger probably really enjoys alcohol and will probably regret it later if she has too much. Not a good idea to give yourself a hangover when you have 12 hours to fight for your life.
Themes & Trivia
Iwamoto: In the scene where Monkey talks with Rat and empties her bag, she takes out something with ‘Iwamoto’ written on it. I decided to have a look at what it actually means and apparently Iwamoto is a common surname in west-central Japan and carries the meaning of ‘someone who lives near the base of the stone’. I have no idea if this is a clue to Monkey’s character or the way she kills – do things.
Is the show that predictable? So far, if we don’t count Snake, the killing order is following the same order as the zodiac signs circle. For those who don’t know the order goes like this: Boar, Dog, Chicken, Monkey, Sheep, Horse, Snake, Dragon, Rabbit, Tiger, Ox, and Rat. Could it be? No, I expect much more from Nisio!
As mentioned above, I really hope that the order of killing is not going to be predictable by following the zodiac signs order or by just making it super obvious by teasing at the end of the episode the next character that is going to die. I have high hopes.
We got small introductions for almost everyone and we got more titles ready for my upcoming fighting game. We have Monkey – killing peacefully, Rat – killing all, Chicken – killing by pecking, Dog – killing by biting, Ox aka Genius of Slaughter – killing systematically, and Horse – killing silently.
I did well to root for the Chick… NO Rooster! SHE MUST BE PROUD OF HER ZODIAC! Killing by ‘pecking’ suits her character greatly as well. She portrayed the inexperienced innocent girl and kept blabbering about random shit to make herself look even more useless and as soon as she got her chance: BOOM! Dog can play dead now. Hehe.
I have to say, however, that it was quite obvious that something was fishy there. Monkey mentioned early on the episode that in order for you to be in Juuni Taisen you need to be an accomplished warrior, so Chicken couldn’t have been useless. And Chicken mentioned things only for Rabbit when she has millions of ravens and pigeons as her eyes. Come on.
