With Cioccolata defeated, Secco shows us his true side, proving to be an extremely tough opponent for Bucciarati, who is starting to lose his senses. Could Bucciarati find himself literally ‘stuck in the mud’?
Japanese title: グリーン・ディとオアシス その③
With Cioccolata defeated, Secco’s whole attitude changes, and he becomes an even more formidable opponent for Bucciarati. He’s able to work out that there is somebody waiting for Bucciarati at the Colosseum, and uses his Oasis ability to easily chase after our zombie boy, who is trying to escape underground. Despite slowly losing his senses, Bucciarati is able to take Secco’s most important sense- his sense of sound. Now unable to fight with Oasis, Secco gets desperate and attempts to take a random cute freckled kid hostage. Needless to say, it doesn’t work out for Secco. As for Bucciarati, it looks like his time could be over…?
– KENN’s performance of Secco was fantastic. He was still able to express Secco’s difficulty in speaking fluently whilst still talking A LOT.
– Secco proves to us that he is not stupid in the slightest. He is able to predict many of Bucciarati’s moments and can use what seems like a simple ability in an extremely deadly way. Although he ended up letting his desperation take the better of him, he really came close to stopping our zombie boy.
– Polnareff gets his official introduction! Although the voice actor has not changed since Stardust Crusaders, he does an amazing job of making Polnareff sound much more seasoned. He really does sound like somebody who’s been through a lot.
– Secco somehow ends up together with Cioccolata in the end. How nice.
– Secco notes that the Japanese pronunciation of Colosseum (‘korosseo’) sounds a lot like the Japanese for ‘kill them’ (‘korose yo’). Hey, he’s not that bad at languages after all.
Bucciarati is literally falling to bits. It’s only thanks to his ability to stay calm that he was able to take advantage of his zombie-state in order to lure Secco to a vehicle, bursting the tyre along with Secco’s eardrums. At this point in the story (and the fact that this is JoJo), the chance of characters actually losing their battles here is extremely high. In fact, if I hadn’t already read the manga, I would certainly have been on the edge of my seat wanting to know whether Bucciarati would get through this tough spot. This episode also marks the official introduction of Jean Pierre Polnareff, who we know very well from Stardust Crusaders. However, he’s almost a different person from the one we know. For one, he’s lost limbs as well as the sight in one eye. His voice also has no trace of the jokey Frenchman we knew and love. The years have molded him into somebody different, and he may hold the key to defeating Diavolo. With Secco gone there is now only one enemy left – Diavolo himself!
Ciao for now!
