One of the laws of Stands is that the Stand cannot exist if the user is deceased. However, this rule does not seem to apply to Notorious B.I.G, which is only truly activated after Carne’s death. This Stand has always been one the Stands from the series that freaks me out the most.
Japanese title: ノトーリアス B.I.G
The gang steals an airplane to get to Sardinia, with Moody Blues piloting. However, before the group are able to take off, an enemy named Carne approaches the plane and is shot dead by Mista. With the fight seemingly over, the gang board the plane but a mysterious pile of bones appear in the freezer. After Bucciarati throws the bones out of the plane, Giorno starts noticing strange graffiti, which teaches us that there is Stand after them which feeds on the grudge of the user, and we learn that it activated on the user’s death. As the user is already dead, the Stand cannot be stopped by simply targeting the user. The writer of the graffiti was the enemy Stand itself, feeding off the energy of Giorno’s Stand. Notorious B.I.G is super fast, and attacks movement, able to out-speed whatever it is aiming for. Giorno loses both arms to the fleshy Stand, which is a giant blow for the team as Giorno can’t activate Gold Experience’s ability without his fists. Despite the gang’s efforts, Trish discovers that the Stand is still on the plane, and she does all she can to ignore her natural instincts to run.
My biggest highlight for the episode is the obvious character development we are seeing from Trish. Of all the characters in Golden Wind, and perhaps even JoJo as a whole, Trish is the one who is seeing the most development, something which we have seen slowly develop throughout the whole series. She reflects upon her own selfish reasons for finding out the identity of the Boss, and compares it to the reasons for Bucciarati and his team. Although she may feel helpless stuck in the cabin with the enemy Stand, we already know that Trish is quite perceptive, having noticed not only that something is wrong with Bucciarati, but she notices right away that the ladybug brooch is regenerating Giorno’s arm, and she knows just how important it is to protect it. Episode 25 is going to bring us some more important development for the show’s only main female character.
Carne’s Stand is named after the late rapper Notorious B.I.G. The ability may possibly be inspired by his final album, which was titled ‘Life After Death’.
This episode was dripping with tension and slow build-ups. The moment when B.I.G hit the window behind Trish was terrifying, even though we knew it was coming. Sometimes you don’t need big action scenes to get your heart racing, and this episode was one of them. It’s quite obvious that Trish is about to get her moment, so we need to come back next week to find out how she’s going to get out of this scary situation.
Ciao for now!
