Episode 10 of DanMachi is the best of both seasons! Endless battles, revelations, lessons about arrogance, and epic bitch slaps: all those elements are combined into a mesmerizing and remarkable happy ending! Allow me to be more specific though.
This episode’s beginning felt like a huge explosion: out of nowhere, City Of Lust is burning down. That means one thing: FREYA! The fairest of them all has arrived, alongside with her vigorous army, and is ready to teach Ishtar a lesson about with whom NOT to mess up… The castle gets abandoned by the Amazons, whilst Ishtar tries to escape in Cersei Lannister style. But her plans are ruined due to Freya’s immense powers. This Goddess is, without a doubt, my favorite character of the series and the more I see of her, the more I can’t get enough. I hope for an arc dedicated especially to her. The ending couldn’t have been any better, since everything occurred as it should: Freya considered Ishtar so inferior to her that she didn’t even bother to fight her. She just bitch-slapped her back in heaven and dropped her mic. OH MY GOD(DESS)!
Meanwhile, and less important for me, Bell manages to save Haruhime with a little help from Zeus, Phryne is casually destroyed by one Ottarl -what a manly man-, and Hermes is more of a scandalmonger than he seems, considering that he plays everyone in his hands, like an evil puppet master. Hm, all this makes him even more interesting and I like where this is going!
Hermes: Hermes pulls the strings like a pro and traps everyone into carrying out his wishes, without them realizing that. Is that Zeus’s plan, or he’s a bored genius? Is he even brighter than Freya? This was a plot twist, at least for me, since I had almost forgotten about him and I considered him a goofy, funny, and innocent God.
Bitch Slap: Freya deserves her title as the most feared and respected Goddess. She has style, attitude, and a creepy coolness that gives me thrills. Her final move, the about-to-be-famous Bitch Slap, was this seasons’ highlight!
K.O.: Phryne is finally gone. The tortures of innocent men will never happen again and I hope that her BDSM cell is destroyed for good -alongside with her.
I can’t possibly express my levels of satisfaction after seeing this episode, especially when it comes to its ending. Except from the battles though, Freya’s appearance in front of Bell, while whispering ‘I love you’ made me curious about the continuation. I want to see if he’ll discuss this with his Familia and how her obsession will affect him from now on.
In conclusion, this arc seems to come to an end and. It was the most eventful and intense of the series so far, since it had redemptions, mature subjects, more sophisticated villains, and a darker atmosphere. I’m glad with the adaptation so far, even though some important parts were skipped. Yet, I’m sure that we’ll learn about them in the three remaining episodes.
Are you content with this episode’s route? Are you in for more of Freya’s slaps and for Haruhime’s entrance in Hestia Familia? Can’t wait to read your comments here, in MANGA.TOKYO!
