Hitomi’s grandma Kohaku (her younger version anyway) arrives on the scene in this week’s episode and brings with her such fun. I’m liking younger Kohaku more than old grandma; way more spunk. Seriously, it must be a weird thing to meet your a younger version of your own grandma or nan! I loved seeing this weird concept in this week’s episode.
Japanese Original Title: おばあちゃんを切り取って
A younger grandma Kohaku finally returns from her overseas studies, meeting future granddaughter Hitomi. Kohaku and the others are planning for their upcoming school festival, with the idea in mind of an art and photography exhibit. All the meanwhile Hitomi has a first glimpse into what Kohaku was like at her age.
Young Kohaku: It’s official I like younger Kohaku more than old grandma. Kohaku was an absolute blast during this episode. At the beginning of the episode and during the first few seconds of her standing at the boats edge, the spotlight was on her. I just knew she was about to cause havoc when she showed the magic she learnt in her studies. It goes a pear-shaped and writes a letter of an apology to the principal. He is just so casual about it, no big deal for causing an explosion, ah so funny.
Skyline View: The animation highlight this time was the skyline, it looked magnificent. The lights, buildings, I’d love that scene as a picture in my room. Actually, any P.A.Works scene would be great.’
Asagi Pout: My speculation from last week’s episode that Asagi has feelings for Sho was confirmed when Asagi looked over as Sho was showing Hitomi how to use the old camera. I can see Asagi and Sho together, ah but we haven’t got to the romance stage of things.
I’m From The Future: ‘Hi I’m from the future’, that’s just not any awkward to say. I wasn’t expecting for the others to find out already. Kohaku’s principal casually looks over every magic mishap and the others’ reaction was rather casual. It was funny.
The Unexpected: A scene in this episode has Hitomi talking with Kohaku about her fear of the future. Kohaku highlights that there is nothing to fear when the unexpected comes along and you just have to just go along with it. If you’re afraid every time something unplanned might happen, you’ll only make yourself more fearful in the end. The unexpected should be seen as a good thing not always bad.
This week’s episode hit a sensitive spot for me especially when Hitomi meets her younger Grandma. It made me think about how weird it would be to meet my family as they were in the past or as they will be in the future. Hitomi and Kohaku have this endearing bond between the two and I could already see it halfway through the episode. If anyone was Hitomi, they’d probably freak out meeting their younger grandma – I know I would.
Younger Kohaku is a crack up, spunky, and a realist and she reminds me of myself in so many ways. Kohaku has added excitement to the group and I’m keen to find out how she adds to Hitomi’s ‘change’ she’ll go through. It was a very chilled episode this week and I’m more than cool with this pace being kept up. It’s a joy to watch this series each week, again no complaints; seriously, none.
Young grandma Kohaku makes me want to meet the younger version of my own nan, haha. The addition of Kohaku has already brought much fun to the group’s chemistry and series and looks forward to her hilarious magic disasters. Iroduku: The World in Colors is stealing my heart each week. Is it stealing yours with its subtleness and animation?
