The happy news is that Magmel is over. The bad news… well, there are no bad news, actually! This anime, which started with a very promising first episode, ended up being one of the biggest disappointments of the season. Sure, it had plenty of funny moments and an interesting setting, but the final result was bad. So, let’s take a look and see what occurred in the last episode!
Last episode’s plot follows the same pattern as the previous two. Zero is still captured by this creepy, old, sadist man and Inyou is struggling to save her. I can’t believe I’ m gonna say that, but I ended up preferring plotless Magmel. The arc which took place in the last 3 episodes felt so rushed, it was sopoorly made and cheap, that made me miss the independent, meaningless but kinda funny ones. The main villain’s, Inyou’s, and Zero’s behavior didn’t make any sense and I don’t know why Inyou didn’t kill him in the first place years ago. Honestly, I find a hard time to understand how this emotionless, evil guy, who didn’t hesitate to kill innocent children for fun, didn’t kill Inyou and Zero when he got the chance(s).
Long story short, it may be the worst finale episode of all times. But, in the end, the main heroes won and kinda of admitted their feelings for each other, at least it was quite obvious that love was in the air. Plus, the minor characters are still alive and ready for new adventures. Expect from Dean Dean though… In conclusion, Magmel was great at being horrible and I am so sorry for this poor manga adaption…
Transformation: I was eating while the transformation happened and, as a quite sensitive person, I left my meal aside in order to keep watching. First of all, we don’t even know what exactly caused this metamorphosis, as well as what was this laser. It didn’t make any sense and I was disappointed, considering the fact that he was the main villain.
Inyou’s weakness: I was surprised once again by Inyou’s weakness. This dude, who kicks monsters’ butts while drinking his coffee, couldn’t take down an old man? Their whole battle felt quite pressed and it wasn’t build up properly.
Themes & Trivia
Do I know you?: Crazy old man’s unexpected transformation reminded me of Akira. Veins, muscles, and inner organs are enlarging and coming out of his body, while he’s almost been absorbed by his new, creepy version. There even was a big laser, though it was red instead of white.
This anime came to an end, and I am somehow relieved. It evolved in something extremely boring to watch, with Zero and Dean Dean being the only highlights. The production didn’t bother to create a descent storyline, not even interesting separate episodes. The quality of the music and the artwork kept dropping and no one put any thoughts in the dialogs. If someone wanted to watch Magmel, I would recommend him to go for the first 3 episodes, and drop it there. The ending might be one of the worst I’ve ever seen in an anime, since it came out of nowhere, it answered very few questions, it didn’t match the previous events, and it was meaningless. I would prefer a decent, mediocre heartwarming finale with the team taking a long walk at the beach over this monstrosity! In summary, Magmel didn’t live up to my expectations and it won’t be something I’ll remember!
‘You’re under my protection…’
So, this promising series, ended up being nothing worth watching. It is hard to find more words, since I think what I said before concludes the whole point. But, I would like to read your opinion about Magmel. What do you think?
