Well, well, well… It looks like we finally got a decent story in Episode 11! I don’t know what kind of twist is this, but things are finally going somewhere. Though, let me elaborate a little more and take a closer look in this suspenseful and explanatory episode!
I fell off my chair because I couldn’t believe my eyes! Is this Magmel of The Blue Sea or is this a whole different show? This was the kind of episode I have been waiting for. It had an actual storyline and we were able to see some character development. But, first things first. Let’s see what occurred!
Eventually, we got to learn about Zero’s cruel past. It seems that she was used for experiments and was forced to kill Magmel’s creature by a sadistic, old man. Inyou was her savior, and this explains why Zero is full of gratefulness towards him. Though, four years have passed and the lunatic is back again. The whole client-team is also back, thus they are used as baits by the kooky one, in order to manipulate our Loli and Angler.
It is needless to say that obviously Studio Pierrot had a plot to work with, but instead of this interesting scenario, we got 9 uninteresting episodes. I cannot believe that there was an interesting story under the surface and I am sad that we lost so much time in boring, filler episodes. Though, I don’t get my hopes high since Magmel was a huge disappointment till now, plus I don’t see a decent connection between the experiments and the continent of Magmel.
Boom-Boom & Dean-Dean: Oh my God! The universe needs to show some mercy to that poor shopkeeper. The knife and the fork on his forehead weren’t enough, so we had to have a huge explosion destroy his shop. I don’t think he’s dead though and I am pretty sure we’ll see his place whole again in the next episode.
Zero’s past: The revelation we were waiting for! Since that small flashback, everyone was curious about Zero’s backstory. And luckily, the time for some answers has finally arrived -better late than never- and we took a look at Loli’s imprisonment, at the tortures she’s been through and at the moment she met Inyou.
Dead or Alive: I am very curious to see if the minor characters survived the massive explosions. According to logic, that wouldn’t be possible, but since it’s an anime, you never know!
Themes & Trivia
Tortures: In this episode, we see Zero being tortured. She wears a necklace which is controlled by the crazy old man and every time she doesn’t obey, it causes her electric shocks. Electric shocks are a ‘famous’ torturing method and one of the worst ones. It has long-term effects to its victims (such as headaches, muscular pain, and fatigue) and its psychological effects are even worse. This abominable type of torment was used -and rarely still is- in many countries, having names like Parilla or Death Chair. Let’s not forget that electric shocks are often used in dogs’ training too -even though it’s not legal. The result is ultra aggressive dogs, dangerous even for their owners.
I am sincerely shocked by this episode’s events (you see what I did here?). Magmel seems to have some potential after all, and I hope it doesn’t get thrown by a cliff once again. I think we will see another season of this anime, so I don’t think the next -and last- episode will answer our questions. I think it will create even more queries and agony. I hope for a permanent quality twist and -for the love of God- NO MORE FILLERS!
‘Who is your master?’
Magmel’s first season is close to its end. The show surprisingly became less random, since it got an actual arc and the events took an interesting turn! Will Magmel Of The Blue Sea finally meet our expectations? What do you think?
