Another week, another review for Grand Blue Dreaming! This week, we feature a lot of nakedness but less alcohol and a lot of diving theory! Yay! Let’s jump right into the review, because there really aren’t many words needed to introduce this episode. Same procedure as always!
Japanese Title: 王様ゲーム (Ōsama gemu)
Continuing from where last week’s episode left off, the guys are celebrating the return of their lost friend. He is angry with them and asks how they will ever get a girlfriend if the other guys try so hard to break them up. That gives them the idea that Iori could help them go on a group date again. He refuses at first but as we know, Iori is a push-over. He and Kohei plan on how to make Chisa invite some of her friends and decide the best idea is to trick her into it. They make Azusa and Nanaka join them for their plan and everybody starts to play Truth or Dare. Everything goes well until the communication between Iori and Kohei goes the wrong way and Chisa finds out what he was about to do… Next thing we know, the group is on their way to a diving store to buy some things for their upcoming trip to Okinawa!
Last week, there was too little skin, so we are making up for it this week again. Which is nothing bad. To be honest, I wouldn’t have noticed if Cakey didn’t make such a big deal out of it. If we are lucky, they will remember that she made them not undress during their next party during the Truth or Dare, so we might see more clothes again next week!
I think it was cute with how much enthusiasm everybody was in the game. They even tried to do everything seriously. With such games, everybody has to do it seriously. Nothing too ridiculous or disgusting. But everybody has to protect the rules. That’s why it was fun to watch them, even though there was nothing lough-out-loud funny. To be honest, the longer this series goes on, the more I want to simply meet people like this in real life and have a nice party with them. Their life just isn’t exciting enough for an anime…
Wooow, we are actually talking about diving! Very seriously! And super interesting! I have not the slightest idea what a diver would need and what kind of stuff you can buy to make diving a greater experience or safer or what you would need… So this episode was fun to watch. The best part probably was the Neon Genesis Evangelion suit that Kohei found and Iori made the girls wear. For once, Kohei accepted Iroi’s friendship, which seems strange, as the two of them are best buddies already anyway.
So, the preview was not the greatest, but oh dear, I am so super pumped and ready for Okinawa! I am looking forward to this and hope it will not be a single drinking festival but we get to see actual fish and animation of the sea and diving. It’s finally here~!
Calling it Truth or Dare is a good idea if you don’t want to explain the real game. That’s the thing it is in its essence. But since we have some time here, let me explain the true Ousama Game here.
In this game, you prepare sticks with numbers on them and one with a crown. You can also use cards using the ace as 1 etc and the Joker or King as the King. Then everybody has to draw a stick or card and you can absolutely not show anybody what you drew. Only the King has to show himself and gets to decide what the people have to do. It can be either for everybody, or he can point out numbers that have to do something. Like 1 and 5 have to go and be locked in that room. Or Number 6 has to massage number 4’s feet. Stuff like that. Anything is fine. There is no going back, no changing numbers and the king can include themselves in the game as well, saying number 3 has to wash or kiss their feet or whatever they want. It’s a fun game if everybody is creative enough with calling out things to do. It’s not so fun if all they tell you to do is get hit on the forehead or something… So if you want, try it at your next party!!
Let’s drink to the fact that they will finally be on Okinawa. Lift your glasses for every time there is the beach or a pool on the screen! I can only hope that this was a good decision based on the preview we got presented…
This week was simple and good. I like that we got to see the buy things to actually go diving. The game was also fun, though I can’t say that it was the funniest episode ever. I just liked to see their dynamic and I think that, since I don’t quite share the same humor as the show, it was actually one of the best episodes for people like me. I enjoyed it a lot and I hope so so much that they will go diving next episode! See you next week!
