I mean, it might probably be because the other anime I’m watching this season is Isekai Cheat Magician, aka one of the worst things ever created by human hand, but I have to say I’m kind of enjoying Granbelm right now. I also feel sorry for poor Mangetsu 🙁
Kuon’s sister is awake? I suppose so. She doesn’t seem to remember much. She’s somewhere by the water with Mangetsu and is telling her her life story. Mangetsu doesn’t know her, but she realized that she doesn’t remember Kuon either. Shingetsu is at home, having flashbacks of the time when Anna and herself were making dolls together. Anna has obviously been annoying since then. Shingetsu seems to be thinking that it was her who created Mangetsu and therefore feels guilty or something? She gives her a call. Mangetsu says she’s nearby and is having an identity crisis, wondering if Shingetsu would be better off had she never was born. Then Shingetsu gets an identity crisis where she thinks that she’s irresponsible and it’s all her fault and… other things… and she runs outside to find Mangetsu, I guess? I suppose she did somehow create someone out of loneliness.
Shingetsu finds Mangetsu, they meet and hug, and Mangetsu kind of thanks her for creating her, so they’re like, okay? Mangetsu says that one of her old classmates felt her presence and smiled at her, and that Kuon’s sister seemed to remember Kuon’s name, so not everything goes to waste, does it? At least that’s what I’m getting out of this conversation… not everything goes to waste, with magic, so she’s happy to have existed. And having tasted pork cutlet buns, lol. I’m hungry now. We’re now almost halfway through the episode and it’s mostly been this strange self-appreciation monologue. Okay. Mangetsu finally looks for Shingetsu and asks her to destroy all magic, including herself. Let’s see? I mean, of course Shingetsu will wind Granbelm, it’s pretty obvious.
They both go to Nene chan’s house and talk about things. Nene’s sisters are impressed that people can still sense Mangetsu. Nene is frantically using her computer. I have to admit, I’m not sure what’s going on. Maybe she’s trying to find a way to save Mangetsu even if all magic disappears? Then they all go on a picnic. Mangetsu’s fake little sister is there too, and of course, she doesn’t recognise her… and then they all cook together? But Shingetsu is really useless at cooking, she can’t even cut a carrot properly. Mangetsu is pretty okay at it, and Shingetsu gets flashbacks of Anna being good at everything. The food is ready, and I’m so hungry. I wish I had some grilled corn. Then Kuon’s sister sings (but where is Kuon?) and they light up some fireworks. What a cute setup that has nothing to do with anything. And then Nene tells Shingetsu… that she could probably save Mangetsu if she became the princeps mage. And then Mangetsu disappears. Everyone immediately forgets about her but Shingetsu runs after her and finds her.
So here’s the tension for the final battle; is Shingetsu going to destroy all magic or is she going to save her friend?
