Finally, we get to see most of the babies’ fathers gathered up all together in this episode of Gakuen Babysitters (School Babysitters). It was interesting to a get a glimpse of their characters and how their personalities balance out with their spouses and their whole family.
Japanese Original Episode Title: その10
Morinomiya Academy is having their cultural festival and the babysitter’s club has to participate as well so they decide to do the ‘Vegetable Café’ where the babies are dressed up as vegetables and serve juice to the customers. None of the babies is able to deliver the juice without making a mess expect Kirin-chan. The parents of the babies, especially the dads, come to see their kids being all cute and happy. Kirin’s dad is introduced in this episode and he is the type of dad who is totally overprotective and doesn’t want any males approaching his daughter at all. The babies manage to serve their families and everyone had a grand ol’ time. Next day, Kamitani’s mom comes to the babysitters’ club to tell everyone that the school has some chicken eggs in the science room that are about to hatch. Everyone gets super excited about it, especially Kotaro and they go witness the ‘miracle of birth’ and play with the cute little chicks.
Kirin-chan’s dad: I was so intrigued to meet the dad of that family. With such a cool mom and such a well-mannered cute daughter, I didn’t expect that kind of dad at all. It is nice to see that Kirin is so loved by her parents, but having such an excessive and overprotective dad is going to be trouble for her when she grows up. Nevertheless, he is an interesting character that gave me loads of laughs during the episode.
Saikawa’s jokes: Every time he shows up on the screen, I am just waiting for the amazingness of his jokes and dialogues. ‘-Saikawa, why are your eyes closed? -Force of Habit’. He kills me every god damn time. Or later in the episode with all the omelets and the eggs, and oh my god, during the next episode preview with all the mamas talking. I just adore him.
Kamitani’s mom is the best mom:I love how she disciplined Kamitani for being hostile to the babies and how she slapped the sh*t out of Usaida in order to wake up. She is the best.
Chicks Vs Kids:Ryu wanted to have the chicks follow him around (do you see the joke here?) and Kamitani told him that he already has the same effect on the kids. Amazing scene.
Themes & Trivia
Cultural Festivals in Japan: Cultural festivals (文化祭bunkasai) in Japan are annual open day events held by most schools and universities where their students display their artistic achievements. The festivals are held to display the students’ learning, but many people visit a festival for recreational reasons. Alumni also take the opportunity to visit schools they once attended. Parents may also want to see what kind of work their children have been doing. Food is served, and often classrooms or gymnasiums are transformed into temporary restaurants or cafés. The festivals are usually open to the public.
The end cards that you might have missed: Every episode so far had end cards that show most of the characters in a baby and a grown-up version of them. In case you haven’t seen them you can have a look here. Everyone looks so damn cute.
What was the deal with Kirin’s dad? Is he supposed to be some sort of player or is he just portrayed to love all the female kind? ‘If I were 15 years younger, I would ask for your hand.’ Funny and borderline creepy, these kind of things are okay to be said only by senile people and of course when their intentions are pure, otherwise, it’s just gross.
So,Usaida is not completely useless. He actually has a talent and he can make costumes from scratch…? I highly doubt it. He probably did something dodgy or took advantage of someone to make them or acquire them. I don’t trust that guy at all.
What was Saikawa saying at the next episode’s preview? I lost it. He looked into how to become a mama, but not the kind of mama that owns a bar, the other kind, but he is seeking for mamas who own bars? That guy is the best character I have seen in a while.
‘Rule by fear.’
Usaida’s comment at that point made me laugh so much, but to be honest, Kamitani knows what he is doing. I seriously can’t wait for the next episode where Saikawa is going to be taking care of the babies in the babysitter’s club. I am sure it’s going to be hilarious.
