After three weeks of waiting, as promised, Episodes 11 and 12 finally dropped. Last review, made me nervous at how Invisible Victory was going to conclude itself. In the last scenes of Episode 10, it was revealed that Kalinin had joined Amalgam, hijacking what I thought was the new Arbalest, but finding that it was not so. Nothing was left on a high note, but this is Full Metal Panic; there is always a turnaround.
I’m more than happy to report, Full Metal Panic is not done with concluding itself yet. As for Invisible Victory’s big finale was full of unexpectedness and epic action. I’m one happy fan right now as I write this, but let’s get into the review!
Japanese Original Titles: 嵐が来ている and 私の一日を作る
Sousuke is fully recovered and has been training hard with Courtney. Lemon discovers Amalgam base somewhere in Mexico. Sousuke plans to do it solo in the hope of rescuing Kaname. No-one is aware of the trap Leonard has laid out for everyone. Nothing goes according to plan whilst Leonard plans to escape with Kaname. It turns out to be quite the interesting conclusion for Full Metal Panic and not one you would expect.
The Fans Confession: Well if you’re an old, avid fan of Full Metal Panic, like obsessed me, unlike in the first three seasons, we finally got the closeness growing between Kaname and Sousuke. It was never put in the spotlight till Invisible Victory, giving us until now just little snippets of sweetness. It gave you the hope that something, could happen. Episode 12 had my fangirling heart racing like never before. Kaname pulling her little stunt, to have her last chance of talking with Sousuke.
It seemed at first Kaname had given up, seeing herself just as a burden to those around her. Quickly Kaname bounces back, demanding Sousuke to put those crazy military skills to use and come save her. Then the heart racing part came. Exchanged words of love were spoken between the pair, reaffirming the affection they felt. I cannot lie in this review… I may have shed a tear… because it had been a long wait to hear those, three little words. From this crazy pair, it SUCKED Sousuke was not able to save her!!
This only stated even more things were far from other with Amalgam. Though Kaname and Sousuke’s reunion was so brief, that confession, oh my god, the words won’t come out. It was hilarious and beautiful at the same time. Particularly funny the part Kaname telling Sousuke ‘ Don’t care if you have to kill millions’ in order to save her, was a figure of speech.
Smug Leonard: My dislike for Tessa’s brother through the course of Invisible Victory has grown. I hate the guy. Leonards repulsive attitude towards Kaname, handing her his gun, giving her the opportunity to kill him, knowing Kaname can’t do it. This kind of confidence is grindly and annoying to watch. This sounds bad. I actually laughed when, accidently the gun goes off, whoops. Leonard is knocked out from the shot. If he had died at that moment, that would have been majorly disappointing. We won’t be seeing the last of him.
Kalinin WHY!!: I want to believe he is still on Mithril’s side secretly. But, damn, he made it hard these two episodes. This is one annoyance I have with the conclusion of Invisible Victory, is Kalinin the enemy or not? Ugh.
Tessa’s Fanclub: Eccentric military guys Courtney and Seals are hilarious. Particularly at the end of Episode 12, they finally get to Captain Tessa then only to be taken away moments later. I didn’t know Tessa was that popular among her superiors.
Perfect Music: At the end of Episode 12, it was so perfect during two scenes. First, Kaname and Sousuke’s confession, they played the ending theme from Season 1, ‘Karenai Hana’. It’s a beautiful song that signifies the strength both Kaname and Sousuke give one another. Secondly, when Sousuke is reunited with his Mithril comrades after six months, Season 1‘s opening theme, ‘Tomorrow’ signifies a new beginning or turn around for the group. Loved that the series used these two main tracks perfectly.
Arbalest 2.0 Is A Beast: While the confession was my main highlight, finally getting to see the new-improved Arbalest set my heart ablaze in excitement. The way Sousuke interacts with Al’s computerized personality has always been hilarious. Finally, when the two were reuniting, nothing had changed in how they worked together. Al kicked some unbeatable ass, with all these fancy new specs. Taking out those Behemoth’s like their ants, especially shooting the one that tried to flee, with that gorgeous Demolition Gun.
It was hilarious in many moments, Sousuke’s reaction to Al’s power upgrade, – Al stating he’s never had a test run. Al mech design is amazing and it was ‘oo, lala’ when a ponytail came flowing out when landing in front of Sousuke. Al is a beautiful beast now, not to trifle with.
Demolition Gun: Apart of Al’s new design the demolition gun can shoot off a range 165mm. Also switch to Gun Howitzer mode which allows the pilot even farther range.
Risk It All: Kaname tells Sousuke to do whatever it takes to come save her. Sometimes you gotta do what it takes. Taking risks in life is not a bad thing, it shows you’re gutsy and brave.
Kaname’s Resolve: Kaname could have tried to escape from Leonard but she felt staying with him. Kaname would not be endangering those she loved, reflecting on her friend Kyoko coming to harm. Lead to Kaname thinking this way.
It’s been hard to process all that happened in Invisible Victory. Honestly, I thought I’d be ranting in my disappointment if Full Metal Panic had come to a close for good. But my face is beaming with happiness that the overall conclusion stands out the fact that this is not the last of Full Metal Panic.
It made me really happy that in the last few minutes of Episode 12, Sousuke reunited with his Mithril buddies and it was heartwarming. It had been so long since they were all together. It marked a new beginning for the group and I felt that next round Amalgam would be done for. It’s the first time feeling satisfaction in a non-ending even though Sousuke and Kaname, my babies are still apart. I feel weird, I’m not distraught over this, though feel I should be.
Maybe that is because of Sousuke’s and Kaname’s love confession…which stopped me in my tracks. Actually had to pause the episode to get what had just transpired. After all the previous seasons of constant teasing between the two, the romance factor was finally implemented. I was laughing and crying, Kaname demanding Sousuke use his crazy skills to come save her, to hold her soon as he had grip of Kaname. When they mentioning kissing… My fangirl heart had never died so fast, within seconds. Do you see why I’m so glad Invisible Victory exists? It was the perfect long-awaited confession. I had been yearning for this for all these years.
But I need to state quickly that Arbalest’s 2.0 is a beautiful beast. The wait for this robot’s return was worth it, people. I loved, loved every second of seeing Sousuke and Al fighting once again. It was majestic. In all seriousness, both episodes were major kick-ass and full of high energy. There no way for me to deny this fact, even though wishing Kaname and Sousuke were at least together. Now we just need a movie or season five, Studio Xebec. High expectations will be had by the Full Metal Panic fans, such as I.
Well my fans of Full Metal Panic, I’m very sad my time of reviewing this crazy series. It has come to an end, but THIS IS NOT THE END. Isn’t that better, than a quick, cramped conclusion? I think so.
Full Metal Panic Invisible Victory despite the unnecessary recap episodes and delays. It has been truly a blast to watch, more the fact Full Metal Panic will get a conclusion. After so many years thinking it wouldn’t. I’m truly happy at the end of the day, now waiting for the next season or a movie. Which do you think would be better?
Tell us down below what did you think of Invisible Victory’s conclusion? Was it non-conclusive for you? Are you glad it’s not over yet?
