Episodes of Fruits Basket tend to have it all. They will bring tears to your eyes from laughing or from being touched. This episode as well starts off with a lot of fun and laughs and then proceeds to tell another touching story of Tohru. Oh, and something that I would consider a love confession happens as well…! At the end there even is a bit of a threatening atmosphere so I really couldn’t have asked for more!
Japanese Title: お邪魔させてもらおうかしら (Ojama sasete moraou kashira)
Episode 6–Perhaps We Should Invite Ourselves Over
The culture festival takes place at Tohru’s school and two members of the Soma household come to visit them. A tiny commotion breaks loose when Momiji decides it is all right to hug Tohru since she knows about their family’s secret and turns into the rabbit. Thankfully Yuki is there to save the day, as he is dressed in girl’s clothes to give his older classmates fan service. Just one word and everybody’s attention is on him and Tohru can escape with bunny-Momiji in her arms. They escape to the roof and when they come down Uo-chan and Hana-chan are already waiting for Tohru to ask her how she became so close with the Soma family. When Hana-chan asks if she is dating Yuki-kun Tohru blurts out that they are ‘only living together’. This results in Hana-chan and Uo-chan inviting themselves over to see if the Somas are worthy of living together with their Tohru…
Momiji (and Hatori)
Yes, Momiji is undoubtedly my favorite character. Yes, he will always be my first highlight, as long as he does something even remotely cute in an episode. He called Hatori ‘Harry’. His German was AWESOME. Not like in the trailer. He glomped Tohru. He turned into this cute, little bunny. I love Momiji. He was my highlight.
Cute means I like you
Can we please talk about how Tohru just explained to Yuki that it would mean ‘I like you’ when her mom told her she was cute? And not even a minute later he proceeds to call her cute like… five times? Wasn’t that a love confession? Can you see how much he likes her already? This was so cute, all my feels…
Not Threatening in a Dress
That one line by Hatori where he guarantees Yuki that he won’t do anything to Tohru Honda… But that he just wanted to mention that his threatening look doesn’t do anything in ‘that outfit’, meaning the girly dress he wears at the school festival.
Friends like Uo-chan and Hana-chan
Against all odds, I think my second favorite characters might be Hanajima and Uotani. They are such good friends and so protective and thankful to have Tohru be their friend… I just love them together and seeing them come over to take a look at their friends’ new house and roommates was a pleasure.
So there is this saying in Japan that a truly beautiful guy looks like a woman. I think it is pretty obvious that in Japanese culture looking feminine as a guy is not a bad thing. Many girls like guys that look feminine. I just don’t know… with Yuki, I don’t like him in a dress. Most of my characters I don’t like in a dress. Still, it served a good purpose, resulted in a good talk between Tohru and Yuki and to be fair, he did look pretty cute. So thank you for the eye-candy and I hope the die-hard fans of guys-in-girly-dresses were happy as well!
Akito and Hatori
What is Hatori planning and what is Akito doing? I still love the relationship between Akito and Shigure. They just give off such a mysterious and special vibe and on top of that seem like they trust each other blindly while knowing exactly when to not trust the other… I just like watching them.
Technically, it should have been Yuki. Because Yuki said ‘cute’ a hundred times and my heart did skip a few beats. However, he was wearing this ugly dress that made him look more cute than cool and that kind of stopped my heartbeat a tiny, tiny bit. Also, his rival was Momiji, who just went to Tohru and did GLOMP. He literally GLOMPED her. I can’t calm down, just thinking about it I am screaming in delight. Yes, the winner this week is Momiji. Who is your winner? Where are the Hatori stans who would have crowned him?
