Master has come to visit Kyo this week and as I expected, there is the peak of this season. The grande finale has come and there is nothing that could have prepared me for it. Just like Tohru we stumbled into it and then everything turned dark.
Japanese Title: 帰りましょう (Kaerimashou)
The mysterious visitor is indeed Kyo’s master and has come to bring chaos. After a short talk with Shigure he shows Tohru Kyo’s true form. Kyo runs away and Tohru runs after him – even though she is scared, shocked and digusted by the smell of Kyo. When she sees him at the lake close to their house, she tries to bring him back home and he pours out all his worries and shows his past scars to her. We get to hear about his past with his mother and the pain her love put him through.
Kyo is such a poor guy, with his mother committing suicide. The thing that probably bothers him most is that his mother tried to hide her fear and he could all too well understand it. But can we also think a second about the poor mother? If you had a son that turned into a smelly creature… And she just wanted to be a mom and love her son. So she tried, because it’s normal. She wanted to be strong in front of him and take care of him. To deal with all that fear and disgust, she tried to love him more and failed so miserably, and she must have hated herself for not being able to love her son as he was… When I was younger and read the manga, I never thought about that aspect. I thought it must have been hard for Kyo, but I never thought how that mom would feel…
And can I just say really loud: URGH. I mean, his true form is disgusting and even though I can’t really smell it, I can imagine it. It makes me feel so bad for him…
That moment when Tohru was thrown across the lake, landed in it and when she stood up it was up to her ankles… Did they forget that she must have broken a bone or two if she were to land in such shallow water? I mean…I just noticed and thought it was funny, but it didn’t fit the serious scene.
Tohru just understands Kyo. They are on one page. He needs her to do something, and she finds the words to tell him that she does do that thing. Like being scared of him. But also wanting to be with him, have fun with him, understand and acknowledge his problems and worries… She finds the way that his mother should have found.
After this episode I am a bit confused as to how the true form works? He simply transforms after Master takes off his bracelet. Later, Tohru hugs him and nothing happens and then he transforms back. Sooo… What does it take to transform him? Was it the act of taking off the bracelet or was it because he was weak since there was rain? Why did he transform back then? Was it time already? Isn’t he still weak, since it’s still raining and he is emotionally drained? I want to know!
If for nothing else, Kyo deserves this point. He was amazing and brave and even if my heart didn’t skip around from romantic feelings, I felt so much of his pain and he deserves a point!!
