Fruits Basket has entered the countdown. The last five episodes for now have started. I think this one could be considered a filler episode, somehow, yet I don’t think anybody would mind. This time we focus on Hanajima and her crazy waves and how she uses them to protect Tohru.
Japanese Title: 売られた電波は買わなくちゃ (Urareta denpa wa kawanakucha)
The Prince Yuki Fanclub has realized how much time Tohru spends with Yuki and that she even dares to talk to him, without following their stupid fanclub rules. They decide to find her weakness so that they can attack her and decide to go through one of Tohru’s other close friends, Hanajima. Hanajima realizes very fast that they are up to something and invites them to their house, where they meet her younger brother Megumi. Megumi seems like a younger copy of Hana-chan and can curse people if only he knows their name.
I like that we can see the fanclub rules for this ridiculous club. But let me also tell you: this is not as strange as it sounds. Fans supporting their idol in Japan (which Yuki is) are really very strict when it comes to protecting the image of their idol – and thus the fanclub. I’ll go more into depth more below, but I really liked where they explained the rules, no matter how ridiculous they were!
Hanajima’s family is so cute and her brother was the cutest! He sounds like his sister. He looks like his sister. He gives off the same vibes. The best part is that they both seem so dark and scary, yet they are overflowing with love. They have a loving family!
I love how scared they are of Hana-chan, when we all know just how sweet and nice she is. They are the ones trying to do something strange and pretend it’s Hana. It was just hilarious how scared they were of Megumi. Also, why would they call each others names in the house after Hana-chan warned them?
The depth of Hana-chan’s feelings are wonderful. How she sees the jealousy of others but also knows her own heart yet still knows how to not simply act on her emotions. That’s what the Prince Yuki Fanclub could learn from her! Recognize your feelings but don’t act on them! Stay sane!
I did try googling it. The curse doesn’t have any meaning. Random words. But they sound magical! <3
If you have been following my reviews you know that I am way too deep into the whole fan culture thing in Japan. The Prince Yuki Fanclub reacts like pretty much many other fanclub I have seen so far. Protecting your idol is everything, having bad reputation as a fanclub is not desirable. Just a small example: When I first went to an event the second the idols were off stage and it was over all fans took a step back and took a look at the floor around them to clean up any rubbish that was on the floor. It left an impression (and made me and my friend copy them).
While many good things are born from this pride of your idol and fanclub, there are some bad things as well, which Hana-chan talks about in this episode. „Forcing your love on someone can hurt them“ Idols know this first hand and our Yuki-kun here knows it, too. But this part of the series also makes me look forward to him opening up to other people in the school!
If I don’t crown Megumi-kun the winner of this episode, did I even watch it? He was so strong and amazing in this episode. I think he must love his bigger sister a lot.
